Mono: Suckage

So I had been seeing this girl for about a month and a half. We break up two weeks ago. Last week, she calls me and informs me that she has mono.

As of today, I haven't kissed her in 3 weeks. mono can take up to 7 weeks to show up. So I get to sit in waiting and not touch the opposite sex the rest of the semester, waiting to find out if I get to stay in my room for the next month.

Y'all better pray I don't come down with mono. Cause you know what happens if Wilks doesn't leave his room? He stays on Apex ALL DAY.


Well, I am looking on the bright side of things. Mono is spanish for monkey, and that's cool in and of iteslf.

Mono is short for Mononucleosis, I believe. It's a real nasty virus that causes swollen glands, sore throat with white deposits near the tonsils, and you are tired ALL THE TIME. If you try to do any activity, you will get extremely exhausted, and if you continue, your spleen will swell and you could even die if you're dumb enough to ignore the symptoms.

I'm not sure exactly every way it's transmitted. Kissing, though not the most prevelant way to acquire this damned bug, is one such way.

It spreads failry well because the symptoms don't show up until 4-7 weeks after you contract it, so you could feel perfectly fine and infect your girlfriend or God knows who else. Usually it is deemed a cold or the flu at first. It takes 4-6 weeks to get rid of mono once the symptoms show up. It takes a major toll on classes, work, and lifestyles. My dad says that he has never had the same energy level since he had mono back in college.

You become extremely susceptible to this if you have poor dietary or sleeping habits..

sorry to hear you might have it. my dad had it in high school and my friend had it last year. you really are never quite the same after wards i've been told by both of them.

well, I work out 4 days a week and I eat my vegetables. I'm not the best at going to bed before all the infomercials come on, but I certainly am healthy. I'm taking vitamins and hoping that I won't come down with it.

Incidentally, my mom thinks she was the one that gave it to my dad. Her glands had swollen up while they were dating for no apparent reason. She said she felt fine, but dad came down with mono a month or two later. I'm hoping that this weird immunity (if you can call it that) is genetic and I've got it.

I say call her up and tell her you have an STD. That should even things out.

I laughed for a few minutes about that one, hapoo. Then I realized a problem with that: We never really engaged in any activities that would transmit those. Or should I say she never reciprocated...but that's a whole different can of worms...
