I was wondering what you guys thought about the Viper II. I heard that there are a lot of driver compatablility issues. And that it wasn't very good. I need help deciding if I should get it. Computers4sure is selling it for $60 plus a $20 mail-in-rebate. I just need your opinions on if it is a good card.
I curenntly haf an AMD Duron 700, Asus K7V.
Would there be any problems with it?

Viper II, doesn't it utilize TNT2 chipset? If it does, just use NVIDIA reference driver and it should be fine. Diamond is already out of video card business so there is no customer service in case you need it.

The only problem with it: It sucks. Buy a GeForce 256 or GeForce 2 MX if you want the best price/performace ratio.

I, being a long time Diamond fan, was getting a new card for my friends PC. I had the V770 ultra and loved it. Well, S3 bought out Diamond, changed the chipset to the Savage 2000 crap, and wa-la, the Viper 2. I didnt quite know this, went ahead and got the card, and we expected it to compare or even out-perform the V770. We were gravely disappointed. This card sucks big time. Don't even bother looking at it. Poor 3d renderign quality. Runs Q3 ok, but nothing fancy. Barely runs games such as Delta Force and Rogue Spear...

Like I said, don't even waste your time...

Thank you Irish, I guess I'll have to wait for a Geforce 2 deal to come out. Is there a big difference between Geforce and Geforce 2?

GeForce2 GTS is a bit faster than a GeForce DDR.

    GeForce2 GTS $159 at compugeeks GeForce2 GTS: http://www.compgeeks.com/details.asp?invtid=NV897.0

    GeForce2 GTS $152:

Viper2 blows goats and its drivers suck. Diamonds graphics division has been sold to Via. Don't expect any new driver updates. Bottom line avoid goatblowers!

It's my mistake to mess up Viper II with V770. Forget about S2000 chipset. It has no future driver update, why would you want that? Grab Geforce2 at compugeeks for low low price. GeForce2 GTS blew my mind off when I upgraded from Matrox Mill II with Voodoo II. It's definitely worth it.

I got this card simply because it was so cheap. You get what you pay for. For a $40 dollar card it's worth it IMO.

    Talking

I would have to be paid more than $40 to use that card.

Yeah, no doubt it's a bit slow to today's standard. I'm not sure if I can live with Viper II neither, don't even dream about playing games in 32bit in high resolution. If I were you, I'd wait 'til having enough cash for GeForce2 ($150). The performance difference is unbelieveable.
