S: Neighbor called the Cops on Me :(

The yellow dot represents from where I start my car and the red dot is his house..

So this old guy who lives in the 3rd house from mine, called the cops on me complaing that I was speeding. My car has a big ass exhaust and it sure does make a lot of sound. The only time I cross his house is early in the morning at 8am and in the evening at 5pm. So the cops knocked my house and nobody was home. They told my neighbour next door to inform me. The neighbor also told me that the guy is a really bad guy on the street and not to mess with him. He might also write down a complaint to revoke my license for 6 months. My car does not have a great acceleration and I might be going at a maximum of 15 miles but the exhuast sound makes it look like I am going at a way more speed. Even If I did go a little faster, they could have just told me that. I am sure, I would have respected them. I am still wondering how fast I went.. God I feel sick to my stomach now

They can never give you a ticket or revoke your license based on what someone else says. He would have to have evidence to prove like video. Cops may sit there and watch for you, but as far as having anything like that happen it won't. You could also file a harassment complaint against him.

Huh? You're getting a speeding ticket 'cause some guy said you were speeding?

Hmm...I think at most he might get you for disturbing the peace for the noise if he pushed it. I wouldn't get sick all over it though. Take some chill pills.

well I think it was just a serious warning. But the cop just informed my neighbor next door and left.. Also the guy told the cop that he screamed at me serveral times telling me to go slow. I dont see anyone in the street at 8am or 5pm or never heard anyone screaming at me. I dont even know how the guy looks like. My parents are really upset and want me to never go through that street again.. They basically want me to do a U-Turn.

Chill out kid, there is nothing the cops will do based on an old guy's say-so. I'm actually surprised the cop took the time to come to your neighborhood. Must have been a slow day.

This event has gone as far as it's going to go, there is no such thing as filing a complaint to get someone's license revoked.

You probably should look into getting your exhaust fixed. That's just plain bad neighborliness to have such a loud car. Then drive like a normal adult (not like a teenager) and you'll never hear from him again.

I also support the u-turn idea. Turn the other cheek, this guy is there till he goes out feet first. I am sure you're not his first complaint. When I lived at home I got caught red-handed hot rodding by a kid and his dad nearly wrung my neck. I went home expecting to find sympathetic parents...wrong. They made me go apologize for driving like a teenager. Best thing that ever happened to my driving. Get your exhaust fixed. No one wants to hear 2 chamber flowmasters on a generic car.

Don't sweat it, he can't do much of anything if you're not truly speeding. He's just flexing his chest, making some noise. Ignore it.

Speaking of noise, get rid of the exhaust. Having your car riced up like that...c'mon.

I would roll up on his lawn, do some doughnuts, drive through his front wall, and then burn away laughing.
The next day i would sell the car so when the cops come to get you, you can tell them that you dont have a car and the reason you were gone early is because you car pool to save the environment.

plant some weed in his backyard and call the cops on him!

or just do something more juvenile, like throw eggs at his window, or TP his bushes or trees.

or to make it simple, just go torch his house down.
there are pictures, but no,nothing happens on my site.

yeh and then again..perhaps the one neighbor is lying because they have a grudge against the other neighbor..perhaps the cops never even came to your neighborhood, perhaps you'll falsly accuse the old "senile" man because they other neighbor told you a cop came to their house and left you a "warning" with them..highly unlikely that would happen....Perhaps you should call the police station and see if someone REALLY DID come over and ask them what they wanted..(all they will be able to do is tell you that someone complained and nothing more unless they hear/see the problem firsthand)..if they tell you that no one called on you, or no one was sent to your house, then you know your neighbor is starting a load of crap..tell them all to mind their business and stop worrying over nothing for crying out loud. It all sounds suspicous to me.

Gotta go with Obby on this one. I'd verify that the supposed police visit occurred, present myself in a nice manner, and ask (if they actually did visit the neighbor) what the issue was. Be polite, but inquisitive? If they do confirm that the old guy called them, etc., it is very easy to say, nicely, that you never speed through your own residential neighborhood, and that he may have been mistaken. Also, ask the police how to react if the scenario plays our again. If the neighbor didn't have the, well, respect, or cojones for that matter, to walk down the street and ask you to stop "speeding," I see it as a non-issue.

I've never heard of anyone receiving a ticket because some civilian told an officer that he/she thought someone was going fast. That would open the department, the neighbor, etc., up to all sorts of lawsuits. I'm no lawyer, but I'd say you're pretty well protected. Don't worry about it.

And lose the exhaust. Unless you drive a car that requires a high-flow noisy exhaust (we're talking race cars or exotics here....), it's just not worth it. And it annoys people. Same with motorcycles...there's a guy down the street from me with a tiny cheapo bike with probably NO muffler on it. So he sounds loud and fast and annoys the hell out of everyone around here.

Seriously, swap back to stock exhaust, unless you really have a FI system that requires it. Even then, if you do have such a suped up system, you could just idle down the road at 15+ mph with minimal noise, as you'd have a helluva lot more power than stock.
