Superman Returns is the greatest movie of all time, sorta.
It's not, but...if you are a fan of the first two movies, and you have seen them loads of times, you'll get it. Because it flows almost perfectly from those movies, it captures the style and feel of them, it feels so much like a Donner film it's not even funny.
If you don't get that, you may not like this one.
Brandon Routh was absolutely perfect. He channeled Christopher Reeve in a way that was...amazing. When he was clark kent, he did the same mannerisms, had the same voice, I mean, you could close your eyes and hear it. As superman, he was also very wonderful, though he didn't say enough.
Lois lane was a bit weak. I mean, she was ok, but occasionally, you wanted to tell her to shut up and get over it already.
James Marsden HAS EYES. I never knew that. Freaked me the hell out.
Spacey was pretty good, making Lex look fairly evil. I still prefer Gene Hackman but...he did the roll honor.
The action scenes brought out my inner 9 year old boy.
Again though, and I don't think any critic really makes this clear, or gets it. This is the true sequel to Superman I and II. In fact, it's a full circle conclusion to the first movie, exploring the same themes, and there is even repetition in certain 'events'. It's not a relaunching like Batman Returns. I think people who go in looking to see it as a continuing thing will like it a lot more then those looking to see an all new Superman I.
Me and the kid loved it.
You go have a day.
