Yeah, it's roasting here. 300,000 without power due to storms last week and people have no AC. I'm really surprised at the low death count.

The heat is not so bad. The humidity is awful. I've lived here all my life and I can't recall the weather ever being this miserable.

Bye, I am going to find a walk-in refrigerator to hibernate in. Hopefully stocked full of beer.

yeah, i live in LA, but i went to visit the folks in Sacramento last week, and the heat was uncharacteristically humid.

even here in LA, i live in culver city, and after leaving my window open all day while i'm at work, when i crawl into bed at night, i swear my sheets feel a little damp.

i used to hate humidity with a fierce and undying passion, but just the other day, for some reason, as i was beginning to "glow" (as the ladies like to call it when they sweat), i kind of enjoyed the humidity.

but yes, very hot, and strangely damp.

Saturday and Sunday were horrible (the heat + humidity). I probably lost 5 lbs. because of sweat but gained back about 10 lbs. after the three parties.

San Diego covers a wide range of temperatures from the cool coast to the inland deserts. The official temperature is taken at the airport which is right next to the ocean and that was 99 on Saturday! Previous record for that date was 87. El Cajon had their hottest temperature ever recorded at 113. Normal average at the airport would be 76. When this all first hit, I was just tired from it and didn't feel like doing anything but I am starting to adjust to it as well as one can and have resumed most normal activitits. Global warming? Europe is still hot- they had this last year.

It was hot in Pasadena. Saturday it was 120 outside in the sun. Our apartment only has a window box AC. We were packing all weekend for our move next month and I must have lost 5 pounds of water. We went to the mall on Saturday night thinking it would cooler, and Macys was cooler, but the mall itself wasn't ready for that many people. It was busier than Xmas.

It hit 112 in the sun at my place. In Portland. I currently have no AC, and inside it got up to 94. I moved back to Oregon to avoid this.

Yeah, those storms were awful in some places. We were camping and a couple limbs fell and did some damage to the camper. BUT it's not as hot here as it could be. If that second storm hadn't come through to cool off the temps, I think the count would have been higher.

I heard that the storms around vegas were pretty intense. And it's still rather hot there too

    smart guy....

Hot weather is not unusual even for decent periods of time. But in so. cal and across the US, cities are recording the highest average temperature per day this year IN RECORDED HISTORY. Granted thats only a hundred years of data, but i would find it more acceptable to believe it was a natural cause if like, So cal, or No Cal, or just one state or area had high temperatures... This is very wide spread and to the extent that it seems to be affecting everyone.

Is anyone living somewhere that it is unsually cool this time of year? It was 119 on saturday for me in the San Fernando Valley and they are threatening us with rolling blackouts... yuck.

Haha bad equipment is why we lose power? I think its all our phantom power loads... I think thats the correct term. But like our computers, our recievers, and all the other equipment that sucks power even while off or not in use... That has to have increased at least 10 fold in the last few years and i imagine that power plants are not being built to keep up..

So i started turning off and unplugging all devices not in use in my place to try and save a little bit... I know its not enough to make a big difference but hopefully a bunch of people will do it and it will help a little.

    Stay cool.

I wouldn't care so much if he drove a car but rather if he was doing the best he could to conserve. I think if we all did our best and made sacrafices, things would get better. Even if global warming wasn't of human causes I'd want to try and prevent it as much as possible. I think the ozone hole is a good example of how good practices can make things better.
