Need some help

First I will admit that I am computer challenged. Just got a new computer and in hopes of using all the info and some of the programs on my old computer took the hard drive out of it and got an exterior HD case to hook it up to the new computer with a USB cable.
Everything went fine with the hook up and the new computer recognizes the old hard drive as a mass storage device. Problem is that none of the software installed on the old HD will run. Some wants a reinstall others say that files or info can't be found.
Somehow I can't find one of the folders I wanted the most either. No it's not porn. It's all my car pics and in-car videos of laps at various race tracks.
If anyone can tell me in lay terms a way to get the old HD programs to run I would appreciate it. I will add this, on some of the software I can't do a re-install because I either can't find the disc or can't find the jewel case with the serial number.

Hmm... I don't think you can just try to run the programs as they were before. Maybe try installing the same programs in the new one and then transferring only the files that is stored on the old drive?

Yeah, sorry man, but you're likely SOL on the programs. With recent versions of Windows (I assume you're on XP or W2K?) the programs need to be registered in the OS for them to work. Even if you want to leave them on the old drive, you'll have to reinstall them so the new OS will know where everything is.

For the pictures, just do a search within Explorer for one of the file names. If nothing shows up & you're running XP, you might have to take ownership of the files before you can see them.
