A friend of mine is setting up a computer which he will network with another computer which has XP Home.
He has access to XP Pro, which he would like to install on the new computer.
Will this work or must he install XP Home?

assuming that he wants just a "basic" network to do file/printer sharing he can install xp home or pro, does not matter.Originally Posted by johnnymk

Yes, you can network XP home and XP Pro together in the same network.

Have it set up at my house. No problems, though I'm just doing basic stuff as BI described. Printing, file sharing, monitoring...nothing more.
I can't imagine how problematic things would be if this wasn't possible. small offices and homes where people buy computers at different times and get different dell deals or differnt software packages would make this near impossible to make sure everyone had the same version. I'm positive you'll be fine unless you are doing some special service that only xp Pro has.. but i'm pretty sure you can do everything the controls are just different.Originally Posted by johnnymk
let us know if it doesn't work cause i'd be very curious to hear about that.

actually, from what i understand there are registry tweaks for home edition that will give it all the functionality of pro, which is essentially the ability to join a domain and advanced file sharing.
