    Battlestar Galacticakes

    Found this via BoingBoing.

This is fracking awsome. I guess it's also a possible clue as to how Apollo got so fat.

It saddened me to see the Pegasus go down, but she did go out well - they took out 2 Base ships and severely damaged or destroyed two more out of the five there. They bought the Galactica time to get her jump engines back online and the grounded ships time to get off the planet. Like they said, they knew it was a one-way trip. Fortunately they got enough people out in time on lifeboat Raptors.

I totally agree too - that was another great episode.

I loved that episode. I was happy to see the Pegasus gone. It was weird having the crew on two ships and it didn't really work out.

I loved the part where Galactica dropped like a rock into the atmosphere to launch fighters then jumped out.

well, I knew they'd lose pegasus sooner or later. Frankly, I thought they were nice enough to give us sooo many shows with it in there. And she went out in style.

And the whole dropping on the planet thing...tell me that was awesome.

Yeah. He's pretty big now. It's from when they were orbiting New Caprica for a year without action.

Hell yeah... he got fat! Even his dad Adama called him a "fat ass" on the show. (shocked the hell outta me!)

Dude looked like he'd read "the Santa Clause" or something.

Thank you all for dropping spoilers with no warning. I haven't seen the fracking episode yet!

I hate you all... (probably not, but at least give me some time to brood over this)

The drop into the atmosphere was great. I loved the quote from Adama: "brace for turbulence"... what an understatement! I knew they would blow up the Pegasus, it happened in the original episodes in a similar fashion. To keep Pegasus around would have ticked off too many of the old show fans.

Kevster - Didn't Pegasus destroy 3 base ships, 1 when she first jumped in, and 2 when she went down?

Did they ever show the Pegasus getting destroyed in the original series? I know we never saw them again, however according to Wikipedia the Pegasus was never confirmed destroyed
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battlestar_Pegasus

After the destruction of the Twelve Colonies, two of the Galactica's vipers were discovered while on patrol by the Pegasus, the two battlestars met and took part in a fierce battle against the Cylons. Toward the end of the battle, the Pegasus moved into point-blank range of two Cylon base ships and managed to destroy them. After the dust had settled from the attack there was no sign of the Pegasus.

Commander Cain's daughter, Lieutenant Sheba, was a pilot on the Pegasus and remained with the Galactica after the Pegasus disappeared.

There was once a widespread fan assumption that the wrecked spaceship in War of the Gods (that the mysterious Count Iblis had brought to its destruction) was the remains of the Pegasus. Nothing about the appearance of the wreckage indicates this. The dialogue in the episode has Apollo commenting only that the wreck was "as big as a Battlestar". However, Apollo and Starbuck's reluctance (and Iblis's absolute refusal) to allow Sheba to see the remains of the dead crewmembers that they found led many fans to believe that they found Cain's body. The reports concerning the footage deleted from this scene (which showed a cloven hoof as part of the dead bodies) clearly reveals that it was never the scriptwriter's intention that the wrecked ship was the Pegasus. Dead or alive, the fate of Commander Cain and the Pegasus remains an unsolved mystery.

You know I just watched that episode again and I have to say again, that fracking rocked. When Adama says, 'That's it then. It has been an honor' and then they show the base stars outside surrounding Galactica pounding the hell out of it and right afterward they pull waaaay back for scale. I'm still get impressed with the high quality of the acting, especially from Michael Hogan as Tigh in the last episode.

You're right... It is assumed that the Pegasus in the original series was destroyed in the battle, but no "boom, there's the pieces" proof. This episode was on SciFi a few weeks ago. There were actually 3 Cylon base ships, the 2 that attacked Pegasus and one further back with Baltar inside. When you add all of the circumstantial evidence together it makes a pretty good case for the Pegasus' destruction though.

    1. The Pegasus attacked 2 base ships point blank. The resulting explosion afterward lit up the inside of Starbuck's & Apollo's vipers who were both in full retreat mode at the time. Big explosion that close, you're gonna get hurt as well.
    2. Baltar and Lucifer appear in later episodes, meaning they survived the encounter. A single, damaged battlestar would have been destroyed by an intact base star and the remaining fighters from 3 base stars. Startbuck & Apollo made mention of the large number of returning fighters (that's why they were in full retreat mode).
    3. Battlestars in the old series didn't "jump". They got there the brute force way. I remember Cain saying something about expending half his fuel to get the Pegasus up to light speed. Two trips to light speed and you'd be looking for an Exxon. So a "jump, hit, and jump" attack would not be possible.
    4. The Count Iblis Wiki you already linked.

Either way, they are still a little bit different.. but I guess that is what makes the new one interesting.
