    S: Credit Card # Stolen

I did quite a bit of online shopping this holiday season. However, I made sure I made all of my purchases from either Buy.com or Amazon.com. There was one instance that I purchased a camera battery through a third party seller off the Amazon site, but i cannot be certain how my # was stolen. I was just notified today that my credit card number was stolen and will be cut off.

This could not come at a worse time as my holiday bonus was cancelled (due to poor company performance) and I had planned to arrange a big get-together for my girlfriend's birthday. I guess I'm going to have to dip into my savings. (I only have 1 credit card)

I am now going to have to reformat my computer (to be certain I got rid of any possible phishing spyware) and will have to wait a week to get my new credit card.

The only good thing that came from this is the fact that citibank was able to indicate the fraud and contact me. I guess the situation could have been much worse

You should have a replacement card pretty quickly. They want to get you a new card asap so they can begin to earn money off of your purchases, so they are normally quick about it.

I use Citi's temporary card number generator for online purchases- specify a dollar limit and expiration date and it gives you a randomly generated number to use for a particular purchase. My B of A (formerly MBNA) credit card account also has that feature. You might want to check it out. It gives great peace of mind and isn't too time consuming to use.
