    Grapefruit....

    How do you eat yours?

When I was little I would have it on sunday mornings (still ocassionally do) and mom would cut it in half and cut the individual sections. Me and my sister would ocassionally eat every other section first to make a pattern.

Lately Ive been eating them like you eat an orange.

Edit: In response to Napoleon's IM (and probably pending comment), I eat it without sugar or a gun to my head.

I peel it and eat it like an orange. Then I grate the rind and toss it on the stove with some hot water and make my house smell fruity..mmmm

when I was younger, my parents cut it in half and dumped sugar on top. Pain to eat though. I prefer it peeled like an orange, with all the skin peeled off the pieces too. I like regular ruby red grapefruit, but I also really enjoy asian grapefruit, which is less sour and has a slightly different texture.
    Have a groovy day!

I peal it, pull of wedges (like an orange) then I peal the wedge. No sugar though.

I eat it the orange way. Sometimes I peel the skin, sometimes not. Depends on how I'm feeling that day.

It has to have the sugar loaded up. And since I try to eliminate just about all sugar from the diet, it's not something I eat. Ever.

    Too sour for me...

The darker the color, the sweeter they are. Look for the red ones - they're the best. Pink is so-so, and white you have to roll in sugar just to tolerate them.

My favorite way to eat grapefruit is to cut the peel off (including the outer layer of the membrane), then cut the individual sections out from between each membrane (always working over a bowl to catch the juice). )The membrane can add a lot of the bitter flavor to grapefruit.) If the grapefruit is a bit too sour, stir in a bit of sugar.

Unfortunately, I'm on a statin drug, so I can't have grapefruit.

Just a quick public health matter -

A lot of meds can severely with a lot of meds, so check what you're taking online or something to make sure it's not a problem, especially if CytP450 variants are involved. They can easily inhibit things and make drugs much more potent or toxic (some opioids, heart pills, etc.) Just FYI. This is somethings worse in grapefruit juice, as they add extra concentrate to improve flavor.

I love grapefruit!!! I like it sectioned and then when I am done eating the sections I squeeze the remaining juice out of it. I like the grapefruit without sugar.

I think the grapefruit is severely interacting with your meds again!!!

Hah! To be fair, I should have issued a disclaimer. I was recovering from a bad migraine and some oxycodone. Heh...my posts rarely make that little sense, I hope.

Grapefruits can inhibit or more likely enhance the effects of some meds, because a chemical in the grapefruit ties up an enzyme in the liver. Grapefruit juice is usually worse, as they often add extra concentrated juice to enhance flavor.

    There, make more sense?

Thanks for clearing that up, H. Some of us were worried about you. Thought maybe you and kimchicowboy had gone out drinking or something.
