    Severe spelling problems

Ok, now, I fully admit to having to look up words occasionally on Dictionary.com. I'm not the world's greatest speller. But damn...
This is an email from my local Freecycle. When I read something like that, it always makes me cringe and think that the person has got to be ridiculously stupid.

    subject line: 3 livenroom tables

two slide into each other third is in good condition has 2 drews
missing handles 1st to email can have thanks misty

    Yikes.

    Livenroom tables?

A lot of people failed that person along the way. Her parents, her schools, and herself. Hard to tell without knowing the whole story, though.

Gosh-we must be on the same freecycle..LOL
I've noticed that alot of repeat users on my local freecycle are horrendously bad spellers. Not only that, they all admit to not working, living in "traylers", and having special needs kids. Funny though, they all ask for laptops, cars, and other big ticket items ALL THE TIME. One woman even posted that she wanted a laptop so she could recline on the couch and play on the internet all day. And yes, her post was spelled completely wrong. It was funny-but you gotta know she got about 100 responding posts from people telling her to get off her butt and find a job.

Probably too much partying, watching TV, playing sports or just plain lazy.

I wonder if she spelled her own name right. Maybe it's "Missy".

Two drews? Gimme a break. Proofread what you're writing, especially if you're trying to sell something.

One of my pet peeves is the PREVAILING use of apostrophes for making nouns plural. It seems to have gotten worse with the advent of the internet. I see, in restaurants, etc:

"Pizza's for $10" or "Bagel Sandwich's for $6" etc. There's even a business that's been there for many years on a major street in NOLA called "Herwig's Bicycle's." Bicycle's what? Tires?

Well... this doesn't actually bother me that much. Typically, if I am giving something away for free, I put very little time into my post. If someone wants it, they can deal with a typo. If I was *asking* for something, though, I would try much harder to write a post that was clear and easy to read.

the thing is....they're not typos. you don't accidentally spell livenroom or drews.

and the thing that bothers me is too many of these " " " " "

"cookies" for "sale" what? are they not really cookies? are they not really on sale?

we had this older woman in one of my upper level marketing class that used the hand quotes all the time and bobbed her head when she did it. unfortunately she had this massive frizzed out hairdo and it bounced all around. i couldn't hardly watch her present without wanting to break her hands off at the wrist.
