When you rent a car, do you purchase the Loss Damage Waiver? What are your reasons for or against it?
Thanks in advance!

Never! My reasons against it?Originally Posted by aznaphrodite
1) their price for it is outrageous
2) My personal auto insurance covers this for me when I'm in a rental car (check with your insurance to verify this, and have a copy of your declarations page with you in case the rental company requires it).

My company always has us decline all optional coverages. They have a special insurance policy that covers anyone in the company that is driving a rental car on company business (I think it covers any liability above $3000 - below that and the company just pays for it outright).
I think that page on Enterprise Rental deals that was posted around here mentions quite a bit on how the optional liability coverage is akin to a "Best Buy extended warranty" - i.e., gravy for the rental company.

Definitely check your insurance. My insurance (CSAA) completely covers rental cars, as long as I am in the US (I had to rent in Europe once) and the vehicle is under a certain weight (so uhaul/ryder trucks are *not* covered).

yup my allstate covers rentals also. allstate also saved me money when i leased a truck from the dealer. dealer said i needed gap coverage insurance. as i was talking with my agent she says i dont think ford motor credit requires it, same time i read it in the flyer next to the phone.
