    Mexican Car Insurance

Does anyone know of a rental company that offers mexican car insurance. I am in Southern California, and would like to rent a car down to San Diego then drive it into Mexico later that weekend. Thanks!

When I get a Hertz rental in San Diego, they always ask if I'll be taking it into Mexico. I've never done it, but I'd expect that if you say yes, they present you a figure of additional coverage/info.
    And closer...

I know someone that rented a couple of years ago with arrangements to drive into Mexico. They had to stop somewhere near the border to take out extra insurance. (I can't remember what agency they used - perhaps Dollar - but it was an LAX facility.)

I'm sure that any major rental agency in So. Cal. (or other border areas) is very familiar with what is necessary. I'd definitely give the agency a call before reserving to make sure of their particular policy, as some may totally prohibit taking their vehicles over the border.

As you get close to the border, just pull off at one of the last few exits and there are a ton of drive up places that offer Mexico insurance.

Rental car companies require you to purchase insurance through their carrier for driving to mexico. All the major companies do it with enterprise, hertz and avis being around 25 dollars/day, which is similar to Genworth (GE) Seguros that I normally get on my private car (2006 Accord V6 sedan).

Most rental car companies go with Grupo Nacional Provincial.
You can't take their rental SUVs into Mexico due to high theft rates.
Driving in mexico w/o insurance is a punishable offense. (Similar to Europe).
