I've got the 8600 and it's just "ok" in my book. It's kind of a hassle not having dedicated music buttons on the front (they're there, but you have to constantly "activate" them to do anything.)

I had to tweak with the settings a little bit too to have the backlight on the keypad to stay lit a bit longer, it likes to switch off fairly fast. Your tradeoff is a bit less battery, but no point having battery if you can't dial!

Can't speak to the price at all... I upgraded from a VX7000 for free.
