My aunt's computer came down with three viruses which forced her to quickrestore her computer. (compaq) and now it doesn't recognize the CDROM so she can't do another quick restore. Any suggestions?

(I'm currently looking into MSCDEX and if this fits in, but I'm really clueless on this one. Any help would be greatly appreciated, the sooner, the better. Thanks guys)

New news: It's her internal zip drive and the CDROM drive that aren't functioning. It doesn't even open when you push the eject button. (I had her run a step by step device driver option in the startup for WIN98 and it said that it failed to load the ATAPI driver.

This all seems to be pointing to the idea that neither drives' power cable is plugged in, but no one has been inside the computer (and it picked a very strange time to creep out of the slot, if that's the case)

    Any new ideas?

    retraction

Well, mother came home and suggested that it was because my aunts CDROM (also a burner, unbeknownst to me) and her Zip drive were not originally purchased with the computer. So evidently, all my aunt has to do is unplug those drives and put her old CDROM back in and everything should work.

    makes sense to me....

thanks to anyone who was busy researching archives with the intent to post a reply.
