SS: heat wave and no a/c

this stinks... we wake up at 8:30 in the morn, and it's already 82 degrees out! And our condo doesn't have A/C (not even a window cooler), so we're feeling every bit of the 80 degrees. this stinks - it was so nice and cool all last week, and suddenly, wham, heat wave.

next time i hear someone say: "oh, you don't need A/C, cuz we get the cool ocean breeze", i'm going to shoot them. cool ocean breeze my arse, it's bloody HOT.
Have a groovy day!

I feel your pain. That's what our landlord said when we moved in "oh, you don't need A/C....". The last several years we have had weeks where the temps are in the 90's at 11:00 p.m. and the owner doesn't want to put in an a/c unit or allow us to put in an airconditioner b/c it will ruin the look of the buidling.... A$$#@!*

He has central air in his home... .....

ha ha. my friends are in the same situation and it does get hot even in those cities between the 405 and the beaches. we were bbq'ing out there yesterday and they could have used some ac.
I am 30 minutes inland, but we have ac. It's not as bad as the IE, but we still used it 4 or 5 times this summer and are using it today.

In Carlsbad I'm getting a temp reading of 72° with an index of 86° but the humidity is at 53%. MUGGY!

About 85 in Pacific Beach. Over 110 inland this weekend. Yikes! One problem is that it does not cool down at night- usually only drops about ten degrees. I'm getting by with a fan. I look forwards to going into work where it is cooler.

In Colorado it would typically drop 30- 40 degrees at night which made a big difference. The air was a lot drier too. Without the humidity here it really would not be that bad. Supposed to cool down later in the week, but there is a hurricane in the Pacific which could bring up a lot of tropical moisture for us. As uncomfortable as it is, I know it is much worse in other places. I remember visiting relatives back east with 90 degrees combined with 90% humidity. No way to cool off in that.

Used to work in El Cajon and when it was 110° outside it would be 130° in the shop. And the humidity was just unbearable. Don't miss that.

I'm in an apartment. I was researching floor models that just have a vent to a window. Nothing protruding out. Haven't been able to find one locally so looks like it's online only.

I agree with your first post. I'm like 30 seconds from the beach and it is hella hot.

I got to help move some of my (extended) family this weekend. From Rancho Cucamonga to Redlands. Freakin' Valley of the Dirt People.

Lucky for me though, I get to sleep during the daylight hours

Maybe I am hallucinating. I thought I just felt and smelled a bit of cooler air. Darn. Seems to have passed. It is supposed to be a little better today I think.

On a side note, I was awakened by a mild earthquake this morning. First one I have felt in a long time. About 8:00 or so (I had to work until 1:00 AM) . Hmm. A search shows one just a couple of days ago too. http://www.nbcsandiego.com/news/1401...subid=10101561

There's been alot of mild activity lately. There was a 4.7 quake in corona on Sunday.

Bah I hate that misconception. We're moving UP, not down. We're also moving north. Before long we'll be overlooking SF

We in Southern California are on a right lateral strike-slip fault. True we are moving north and may overlook San Francisco one day, but if we keep on moving we will eventually end up in the Pacific. Just never gonna happen in our lifetimes.

In terms of north vs west, I've never heard any theories that suggest the next stop after san francisco. That's pretty much where the san andreas fault ends.

In terms of up vs down, I think it's pretty obvious that we're going up and not down evidenced by beaches exsisting and ocean fossils in the mountains.

The pacific plate is moving northwest, with the high ground will remaining high (and getting higher). Sorry to say to all those people that think there's going to be oceanfront property in Barstow, but So. Cal is going nowhere but up. These faults and earthquakes are the reason we have the highest mountains (the Sierra Nevada Range) in the lower 48 states.

And the light that fills the world.

So you ARE going into the ocean! You gotta get to Alaska first though. Granted it's 50 million years away, but:

Yeah baby. I want to go see SF and alaska. I'll start packing my bags...

And we all know we wont fall into the ocean unless Lex Luthor pulls out 2 nukes and sends them out. Then i'm moving to ocean front arizona.
