    5-htp

5-HTP what do you know about it? Have you used it before?

With Donnie gone, I am sleeping horrible, dreading waking up in fear that something else is going to go wrong, moody- yes, more than my crabbie self, and just withdrawn.

I don't want to take a perscription medication. I don't know if what is going on is warrent enough for that. But if I can take a supplement that can help, I would try that. It's either that or lock the kids in a closet with a pot to piss in and a jar of peanut butter til Donnie gets home.

(I would never do that to my children, but man it sounds good every once in a while)

Yeah, that's one of the first google hits.

It was recommended to me. Just wanted to see if anyone had any experience/knowledge.

Try some melatonin that you can buy at GNC. It works for me when I am having trouble getting a good night's sleep. You can't use it more than a couple nights a week or your body will get used to it and it will lose it's effectiveness.

I'd strongly recommend seeking the advice of a professional. I imagine that opportunity is readily available to you, considering you're military, right?

Do you exercise regularly? It might help with the sleep and might help build your endurance for your walk.

I don't like the docs here on base. They give you 5 minutes, can only bring up 2 issues (what if they are related and what if they plus others are something bigger???) and they are quick to push pills, which I don't understand because, from what I have been told, they don't have drug reps pushing drugs?? Seriously I bet there are a bunch of mommys on base who are addicted to perscriptions.

eh. I walk a lot. I get my balance ball out a few times a week and I chase a 3 yr old around the house and back yard daily. I eat good- we don't eat fast food but maybe once a month (I usually give in to the kids when they mention Arby's, subway or Sonic and it's like getting late and we are out) and we haven't ate out at a sit down place since Donnie left. I don't buy soda for the house except for special occasions, I drink green tea and lots of water.

When Donnie gets home, it will be a good thing. I normally kinda go back to a schedule after he leaves, I just haven't this time. But then again, it's the first time in a long time he has left for longer than 4-6 weeks. Donnie is my best friend and I just have issues falling asleep when he isn't around. I did try tylenol PM and it zonked me out and I didn't hear my alarm in the morning so just kinda looking for something to help me out while he is gone.

CalAbsorb.. It's a powdered form of calcium and magnesium, which are both nature's tranquilizers. You can probably find it on eBay cheaper than their website.

I have been taking it for years. But I gave some to one of my sisters and it didn't do a thing for her.

I was told to take Calcium - Magnesium while pregnant about an hour before bed. I never ended up taking it as I went into labor a couple of days later. You can find it in different brands at some of the health food stores. The bottle I have cost me about $16 for 240 tablets. I was told to take 3 before bed.

I used to work for a dietary supplement company. They made melatonin, and another herbal supplement. My wife uses the melatonin, and it mainly helps you fall asleep faster, not keep you sleep. I tried another one and I took one and I sleep like a log. I'm a light sleeper but it worked. If your interested you can PM me and i'll send you the name of it.
