    Is this legal???

So Fry's Electronics had us (cashiers) working from 4:15 AM- 11:45 PM on black Friday, then 11:00-11:00 (me personally) and 10 hours today. My hours pretty much add up to 40 in those 3 days with half of those in 1 day. They base overtime on the amount of hours worked in a week, not daily, but i must ask, is there a limit they're pushing by making us work like that?

It depends on the labor laws in your state. If you were in California, there would be a large poster detailing the state minimum wage and the applicable labor laws in your break room area.

According to Illinois labor law (chapter 820):

The Minimum Wage Law requires that an employee who works more than forty (40) hours in any workweek is entitled to one
and one-half times his/her regular rate of pay for those additional hours of work. The following are completely exempt from
the overtime provision of the law: any employee employed in a bona fide executive, administrative, or professional capacity or
any commissioned employee working in a retail or service establishment as described in section 7(i) and 13(a)(1) of the Fair
Labor Standards Act of 1938; any employer of agricultural labor; salespeople and mechanics in retail automotive, truck or
farm implement dealerships; retail salespeople in trailer, boat or aircraft dealerships; and any employment of employees in the
stead of another employee of the same employer pursuant to a worktime exchange agreement between employees.

So while it may suck, yes they can in fact work you like slave. This is probably a good reason to stay in school, right?
    I think over again
    My small adventures, my fears.
The small ones that seemed so big,
For all the vital things I had to get and to reach.

And yet there is only one great thing, the only thing:

To live to see the great day that dawns,
And the light that fills the world.

Start obsessively picking it while dealing with customers. That should get you more time off....
I like long walks, especially when they are taken by people who annoy me.

heh, speaking of that-we get really good discounts on headphones, cables, and i don't know what else, so if anyone wants a pair of shures or bose's (i don't know why you'd want bose, but anyway) i can probably get you a good deal.
