    RSS:work

for those who don't know, i work for DHL. and on behalf of all my cow-orkers across the world, and(as much as it pains me) my brothern at FedEx and UPS and the USPS, stop ordering stuff online until after xmas. i'm headed for another 70/hr WEEK, yes WEEK, because of how much we have coming from Dell and other online retailers and i don't even have the energy to cook when i come home. hell, i'm so tired, that if i don't have a few drinks, i can't sleep. just hold off, or next year remember this, and order yyour stuff any months but nov and dec. i have a 7 sq mile radius, and its not even downtown, i've got only half of a town, and i'm gonig to over 100 places a day to deliver packages.

oh yeah, and if you order something and want it there by 1030 or noon, and aren't home, you can officially blow me. there's no easier way to piss off your delivery driver than to order something for before noon and NOT BE HOME to receive it, especially if its a dell or a phone from asurian, they both ALWAYS require an in person signature, and we alllll get very pissed when we have to goto the same house the next day because you weren't home...have it delivered toyour work, or let it come ground AND LEAVE A DAMN NOTE for when you'll be home, and we'll try to get there.

hey, i understand, i know its almost impossible to stay home all day, but if you order a package you even THINK is going to need a signature, call your local DHL, FedEx or UPS office and inform them of the tracking number and you address and when you'll be home for signage. trust me, you'll get less **** beat up and broken. after 2 days in a van going around turns, brake, acceleration, with 200 other packages in a confinded space, you'll appreciate us.....and oh yeah, if your driver is non-union, he's making any where from 9.50-12/hr with OT paid straight time, don't be afraid to tip.

*pant* *pant* thank you rant over

You learn something new every day.

I had no idea you should tip a UPS/DHL/FedEx driver....

And here in San Diego, our local FedEx office won't leave ANYTHING without a signature - and I live on a quiet cul-de-sac with a covered entryway that is not visible from the street.

FWIW - I do have the stuff I order shipped to my work. It's just a whole lot easier than having to worry about the whole signature thing.

Finally - thank you for working extra hard in November and December. Those of us that shop online (and wait until the last weeks to do it) appreciate the long hours you work. I know I couldn't do it.

goodness. Take care of your self Cheif. And for idiots who dont know to be home with signed packages coming..
Sign on the box "Your mom" and leave them.
Then if they call and complain, you can look at your records and say, 'Look dude, Your Mom signed for it, OK?' That should make someone smile.. probably you and not them. but f them... they are the morons who can't think ahead.

Take care of yourself. And i'll go try and pick up all my items at the store.

Doh! FedEx left a notice at my door at 11:30 a.m. Signature needed, they'll try again Monday a.m.

Stupid vendor didn't send me a shipping notice until THIS AFTERNOON, and FE picked it up on Wed. Doh!

Welcome to the real world, now get back to work!
    I think over again
    My small adventures, my fears.
The small ones that seemed so big,
For all the vital things I had to get and to reach.

And yet there is only one great thing, the only thing:

To live to see the great day that dawns,
And the light that fills the world.

I hate to be the dick, but 70hrs a week with no real overtime? Find a new job: you'll be happier. At least when I pulled those hours at Sears, I was commission based and saw a definite hourly increase during holiday.

You could always come work for me. I need someone to hold my beer as I harass DHL trucks that come into the neighborhood...

i can feel for you. years ago i worked at packaging plant that assemble cruise control units for GM . we at times load whole pallets of boxs. that be going to diffrent gm dealers to be installed on new cars. The UPS driver had to be at are shop at 4:30 pm m-f to make this pick up. i know from thanksgiving to christmas he catch hell trying to make are shop on time. and he hated it becouse he also had to make sure he had room in the truck for the one to 2 pallets he had to pick up .every day he call ahead to see how many pallets we have for him. he did make a little extra selling the company back the pallets. but he had to stock pile them
and bring them on his own time.in his own pickup on a saterday.

Wow. GREAT rant. One of the best reads in a long time. I always try to tip my driver if it's after 6.

I'm trying to picture you hunched over a steering wheel, muttering to yourself as you skid around sharp corners at 30MPH.

Happy holidays man. Someone photoshop a santa hat on this guy. Keep reading the odd jobs thread and watching "Dirty Jobs" until you either feel better or land yourself in a greener pasture.
I'm not particular about timing, but UPS doesn't let me change delivery options until after the first attempt is made. Otherwise I would prefer to pick up my stuff at the center.
