CompUSA to close all its stores!

CompUSA said it would close its stores after the holidays following the sale of the company to an affiliate of Gordon Brothers Group, a restructuring firm. CompUSA operates 103 stores, which plan to run store-closing sales during the holidays.

How they lasted this long is a wonder-overpriced and some of their stuff was really bad.

No big loss-haven't shopped there for years. No big surprise, either, the writing was on the wall when they shut over half their stores earlier this year.

I remember when the chain first hit this area years ago they were like a breath of fresh air with a nice selection of products and the impressive size of their stores compared to the competition. Used to look forward to their advertising flyer in the Sunday edition of the Washington Compost to seeing what was on sale and used to be in there all the time for hours. Then the Al Gore's internet hit bigtime-to which it and the competition brought CompUSA never really adjusted-I began shopping online and then got fat.

I'm glad the Microcenter in MD took over the CompUSA space. More people now than before.

Never shopped at CompUSA, so no loss here. I really do all my comp shopping online.

Fry's came to town and blew CompUSA away...

    They never had a chance.

They closed here quite a while ago. Circuit City has been gone longer than that.

I shopped at CompUSA once in a while but mostly I bought my stuffs online or at Fry's.

I would never step in BB but I don't mind the rest of the stores (CC, Staples, OD, OM, MC, and etc).

BB is interesting, but way too damn noisy for me.

Unfortunately, no Fry's in this neck of the woods, but I have been to a couple in CA and they are damn impressive.

I, too, use the net for most things I'd probably buy at a place like Compusa, unless I'm in a hurry, or if I see a deal. That said, twice to three times/year is all I've ever really gone.

The GOOD thing that may come out of this is close-out sales. Gotta remember that for when the store here starts shutting down.

The word "may" is the operative term above. When they closed down many stores about a year ago, there were very few deals that would have made it worth setting foot in the store.

i compare that atmosphere to that of walmart. its like instant stress and tension when you walk in both stores. blaring PAs, their own "radio" pumping out "hits" and their own ads, chatter of kids running around and parents screaming at them. Not to mention the fruitless search for any unhelpful employees.
you cant wait to get out of there.

Restructuring group? As I understand it, Gordon Brothers Group are basically liquidators. Buy a company and sell the assets for as much as they can. I have only shopped at CompUSA once.
I add new pictures to my photo gallery pretty regularly. You can see them here if you are interested: http://www.pbase.com/jeffryz

At least they started spraying the beady stuff on their ceilings a year or two ago. Before that, all the echoes bounced off the steel roof and you couldn't hear yourself think. High stress = me no wanna buy.

I kept waiting eagerly for the firesale but it never came. It was like 10% off for a month, then 15% off for a month, etc. The most boring and anti-climactic store closing in history.
