Expired Dell $199 from Thursday back on!

I just bought one with Vista Basic, upgraded to DVD/RW and 160GB harddrive. There was FREE shipping and $11.33 tax ($233.33 total).

If they use the same motherboard for all units no matter the config (I am guessing) there are four DDR2 RAM slots

Thanks SO MUCH for this, cheaper than fixing my parents computer

Remember to select the $10 DVI adapter if you need one

Who in their right mind would even think about doing a down-grade to Microsux Vista?

As of tomorrow, unless you buy a refurb, that'll be your only choice. June 18th is the last day you can order a Dell with a "downgrade" to XP. Last ship date for XP on retail machines is June 30th, so Dell set the 18th as the cutoff order date so they can get them all shipped by the 30th.

I think I'll rent a safe deposit box to store the few unused XP Pro licenses that I have.

Sorry, the original deal is long dead. However, here's a very similar one:

$199 for a Lenovo PC. Although I'd recommend that you pop for the extra $80 & get the $279 one, which gives you a dual core instead of a celeron, 1GB instead of 512MB, & a DVD burner instead of a DVD ROM. Well worth the extra cost.

Awesome, thanks for clearing it up for me and posting the link. It is a nice deal, and I totally agree with you rsuggestion to spend the extra $80 for the non celron CPU. Thanks again!

    Oops, sorry

Sorry for not reposting the link, I assumed people that wanted one would hit the "Yesterdays Deals" link where it was that day, and it probably wouldnt be there two days after anyways.

I set up the system, installed 2 extra sticks of 512MB DDR2 Corsair, it runs great! Final system 160GB SATA HD, 4 slots for RAM (3 used at 512MB), PCI-E slot in case my mother wants to play Age of Conan (haha), even had a floppy drive so they can teach their grandchildren what a "floppy" drive was. It has a nice case with a lockable hasp.

The Celeron 420D is only 1.8GHz, BUT that chip is highly overclockable, and CPUs for that socket are CHEAP now. I did not see if I could overclock on this board yet.

I like Vista now, I was all pro-XP and Linux/FreeBSD before. It has fixed common irritating things I hated in XP, but missing some features I used a lot. Just get a good antivirii like NOD32, disable notifications if you dont need them, and install a nice hardware router and you're safe for the most part. NO system is or ever can be 100% safe.

By the way, are you guys that hate Vista so much using the leaked/hacked version online? Its junk and insecure.
