Fury done did it again.... this time on 2 WHEELS!!!

Yup... I've made a decision on what I'm gonna do with the current fuel crisis in the Fury household.

I'm the proud new owner of a 2007 Yamaha V Star 650 Midnight Custom! WOOT!!!

Bought it used from a local guy who originally bought it for his wife who took a few rides on it and then decided that she didn't really want a motorcycle! It only had 138 miles on it... I couldn't believe it! It even still has factory warranty on it until November.

So his loss was my gain...

I've never ridden a motorcycle before... however I'm more than willing to learn. I took the learner's permit exam yesterday and got a perfect score on it... so now I'm trying to get into the local saftey course that would qualify me for the motorcycle endorsement on my drivers license.

A friend helped me today with my first lessons on the bike... which I rode around on for about an hour getting the feel of how to operate the clutch and brakes. Pretty weird feeling there... kinda like starting all over in driving (especially since bikes are kinda backwards in comparison to stick shift cars... Left hand clutch, left foot shift versus a car's left foot clutch, right hand shift.)

So the adventure begins... I definitely need to conquer my initial fears of riding a bike, but if today is a good indication I'd say I'm firmly on my way.

I will say this.. the photo above does not do this bike justice. You'd have to see it in person to really appreciate it. I'll have to get some pics of it once I get a little more experience under my belt.

Heck of fun aren't they. Just watch the ones who aren't watching you.

    Wooooaahh. That is HOT!!
I personally love your choice cause it's low and almost/kinda proportionally similar to the old school BMW WWII bikes, like the R12, which I really dig. If I ever bought a bike it would be either one of those...

    ...or a ducati.

...But enough about me. It's kinda funny cause if there was ever an image that I would associate with the name, "Dark Fury" it would probably be an angry biker dude who rides at night. With an afro. And a whip.

Congrats on the bike. They're fun to ride.

You did much better than I did when I bought mine being green to riding. I let out the clutch (in my parents yard no less) panicked and crammed the front brake; jacknifed essentially, then dumped it over.

I didn't touch it again until I took that safety course. You'll really enjoy it if it's anything like here. They teach you some really great things.

I gave the T-Bird to my nephew... so now he's pimpin' it out down in Florida now.

I still have both of my HEMIs (the RAM 1500 and the 300C), however I tend to drive the 300C a little bit more in the Summer due to gas prices. The 1500 will get total action in the Winter since my 300C never sees any snow.

The bike is more or less a "stopgap" for short trips that don't require a car... however with an 8 year old, I'm sure that the 300C will still see plenty of action (since I'm not even remotely close or comfortable enough on the bike to risk taking him out on it.)

Pretty much my friend had me going really slow... mostly clutch very little throttle until I got the feel of it. I can drive a stick in a car so pretty much I just used the principles there... although I did have a few problems with clutch control since I recently had surgery on my left hand (carpal tunnel) and my grip strength is only at about 60% of what it used to be.

This is definitely an adventure... I and sure as hell don't wanna drop this beautiful bike. I'm gonna take it slow.

Heh... now you are giving me all kinds of ideas.

Who's the bad Black man... that rides in the night? The DarkFury... is watching! (well maybe not... since I can only ride in the daytime with the learner's permit. )

Ah, I remember my first adventure on a bike. It was a mighty Yamaha yz80. I was so excited to try it out, I completely ignored any instruction from my friend on how to use the clutch or shift gears. I took that baby all the way...in first gear. I was also being chased by a dog (friendly, but I didn't know that), so for several minutes, all that could be heard in the neighborhood was a "vrreeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee"
(if you've ever left something in first gear, you know what that sounds like

I love the feeling of a bike underneath me. Too bad I haven't had a ride in forever. Congrats DF!

I loved to ride back in the good old days. Learned to ride on a Yamaha 250. Next bike was a Triumph Bonneville(650) and last bike was a Norton Commando(750).
Couldn't pay me to get on one these days though. I was scared by drivers in cars too many times back then and with the way people drive now I would be an accident waiting to happen.
I wish I still had those bikes though. If I remember correctly I paid $1800 for the Norton in '72 or '73 and one in good condition today is trading for Around 10k.

Mine was a year older than this one and a 750 not 850. Same colors and same pipes. Geez, that brings back memories.

This is similar to my last bike. A Sears 125 5v, what a fun putter, well I had that and a Yamaha 400, but I don't like to ride to much anymore

Might be time to dust off those old bikes now.

Filled up the tank in the 300C yesterday... took $60.00 to fill 3/4 of a tank for 6 days of driving.

My first experience was a YZ too! Keep the jelly side up DF. Be careful and drive defensively.
