new tire warrienty warning (road hazards )

this happen to a friend of mine.(i was right there when it was called in )
they may not be worth much you decide.
he had a spare tire blow out on him as it was mounted as a spare.
this was not even mounted on or used as a road tire . never drove on but blow apart. the belts blow out the bottom of the tire though the thread.never seen anything like it before .even the tire dealer hadn't before.
anyway he had a road hazard warrienty on the tire .thank god were friends with the tire store mrg/owner .
the store owner called up the tire warrienty company.and they really didnt want to cover this tire.
seems if your tire is damaged by anything less then being cut up by a peice of metal /glass though the thread they can get away without paying a dime. and these companys also will only pay for the cheapest tires avail in the size of tire you had. you could have 4 eagle gt tires on your car .one is damaged in a way to be covered. you will get a jones brand replacement made it mexico if thats the lowest price tire avail.
never let the tire store say it was a sidewall problem or spare tire when there on the phone /or you are . and there better be a cut in the tread because the company will refuse to pay.

I've seen it many times. Tires dry rot. This is more prevalent in areas with snowy winters and hot summers. Look at a tire that hasn't been used for awhile. You may see cracks developing where sidewall meets tread. This is probably how your friends tire looked before it blew. It is always important to inspect the spare during maintenance not just to make sure that it is inflated properly, but to check its condition as well. Many auto owners neglect this and unfortunately so do shops.

wasn't there something posted here about tires that were manufacturered 20 years ago being sold as new, and then the tread separates, killing people? i thought it was a john stossel report.

this one happen to be only 4 years old per the tire date stamp. it was a defect. but agree you could of been right !
