Ok as most of you know I am a country music fan. I try to tolerate other kinds of music when I am with friends. I am not dead to the world so of course I have heard of Eminem. Like most of you I have heard his song "The Real Slim Shady". Not saying I like the song, but I can tolerate it. Well earlier today I was with a friend and he had one of his CDs in his car. He popped it in and I guess he had it programed because it went straight to a song called "Kim". For those of you who are fans of his....what the hell is up with that song? Talking about killing his girlfriend, not to mention the mother of his girlfriend, and throwing her in the trunk of his car. They even have the sound effects of her dieing during the song. Its over 6 minutes and you have to listen to it to understand what I am talking about. How can people buy CDs with this on it? My friend's response was "I don't endorse it, I just like it." Eminem is surely pushing his First Amendent Rights. Talking about a sick bastard!

a joke, really. Acting tough and all that, I don't think there's a better example for one whose "bark is worse than his bite". His "music" itself doesn't really bug me, since I rarely pay attention to the lyrics of any songs. I heard his stuff long before I knew what he looked like, and boy I almost fell off the treadmill laughing when I first saw his mug shot on mtv.

But remember I'm a 37 yr. old parent so I really don't approve of allowing my son to listen to this but then again freedom of an individual to disperse their art to the masses is protected by the US constitution so it can't be supressed but honestly I find humor in it and enjoy it's rather odd content so I guess as long as there is a market for this type of "shock music" it will thrive.
Then again I've been enjoying Howard Stern since the early 80's and Opie & Anthony for their "shock radio" since last year.
It may be possible that what we find offensive we also find amusing and that most likely would explain why M&M,Stern and O&A are the most popular people in their feilds !

PS if "Kim" wasn't offensive for you then enough listen to "97 Bonnie and Clyde" where he dumps his wife's dead body with his child at his side..."I don't endorse it, I just like it"

Everything he does is an act!!
He does say some horrable things but Its all to make $$. And evertime someone complains more people go out and buy his cd's to see what all the fuss is about!! So to answer your question, he'll do anything to make $$. I actually have that cd (wont say if i paid for it or not ) and he does have some good songs on their. Rap is not all about the lyrics, its more about the way the music flows.

On the contrary, I think lyrics play a much more important part of the song in rap than in other genres like pop, rock, country, and whathaveyours. But that's mostly because they lake the "tonality" (for lack of a better word).

No, I'm not a fan of rap. But I can stand and even marginally like some of the stuff.

I think thats more true of R&B than Rap.

Ah, but one can argue that R&B artists (successful/good ones at any rate) require more "traditional" music talents. Rap is all about ability to rhyme, spitting into the mic, and drowning the front row of audience with your spit.

Yeah, but have you actually ever listenned to rap?!? Most of it is very pointless, 90% of them are about B*tches, Blunts, and $$. Personally i dont care what they're rhyming about, as long as it sounds good.

If i want to listen to music thats a little more deep, i'll put on some POP. lol hehe j/k
