Not sure how technical being in your crew is, but I'll be happy to help if you ever do the race.Originally Posted by cheapie
Altitude is definately a concern there. If you do decide to do something like that I would recommend some time at elevation (even half way up) for while to get acclimated. They also have an insane 100 mile foot race up there! Starts about 12,000, goes up to 14,000 and back down.
I grew up riding in Colorado and used to think altitude was exagerated. Then I spend a year in Europe and the last two months of that on a bicycle tour of about 2,000 miles so I was in pretty good shape when I got home. I tried to do one of my basic, easy mountain climbs and could not get up the hill. I had leg strength but could not get enough oxygen. And this was between 5,000 and 7,000 feet (I don't think I actually made it to 7,000- probably closer to 6,000).

13th out of 44 in your class - not too shabby! So how come the other guy ended up in 12th place when you had identical times?
stay low... keep moving...
Get a move on, lard ass.

if you ever do make it out here I can take you on some awsome road rides in elevation. We could do Mount Evans in the summer though not a big fan of snow and ice in the winter.... I know some good cheap places to stay as well if you ever make it out to CO.
Not sure if it applies in this case but in many of these races you have a chip that begins your time when cross the start time and ends it when you cross the finish line. If the guy behind you by a few seconds started 30 seconds after you then his time beats yours.Originally Posted by Markel
The moral of that story is start at the end of the group that you will be able to hang with.
It only ends once... Anything that happens before that is just progress.
Courage is not the absence of fear but rather the judgment that something else is more important than fear.
that's what i wondered but i was under the impression that it was a mass start time for each wave.
