    Talking

    Not-so-suckage

I got my Dreamcast last week and so far i've Burned Mp3 cd's and Music Video CD's (VCD's)
This last console i owned was a Genesis so i'm pretty psyched
Infortunately it doesn't have enough cpu power to play mpegs very well. Its kinda choppy but still awesome.
I can't wait for the XBox, it has more power than my damn computer!! (I have a crappy computer hehe) I just hope its as easy to burn stuff for it.

    yep!!
you can do a bunch of stuff with it. The decoder isn't very nice though, the output is not up to par. But hey, its neat and thats what counts

i did some reading up on it....i guess i need utopia? then i need some files to boot the beast to get it to read them. i tried to just play my stuff out of the box, but it doesn't play anything. i mean, it reads up as a disk that is non-gaming, and it defaults to the audio player, but no go after that. also, my mpegs don't play either. so, if i am missing something, please tell me. i understand that i can download some goodies to make it play vcd's and asf's as well. but if i don't need to.....

    oops, forgot to mention that.
YES you do need a utopia boot disk. Unlike normal computers/consoles, each dreamcast disk contains the OS it needs to run the program on the disk. When you make a disk yourself you also need the OS to run it on, so you have to have a Utopia Boot Disk. Just put the disk in, and after it loads put in the Mpeg disk.

    Angry uh-oh

Rumor has it from Sears's own video game demi-god (Bill), that Sega is going to quit making consoles and only produce it's games, like Sonic, on different systems.

Is the mp3 player really worth it?

Tain't rumor, though you have some of it wrong. Sega is getting out of the console market, and is making games for other systems, but the dreamcast is still being supported, and will be for the next 12/18 months or so - sega's always been good about that.

Just picked up daytona myself...damn fine game.

you dont HAVE to, i'm not sure why it says it, but i've never had a problem with Nero and EZCD/DirectCD coexisting.

thanks for the tip. i just want it to jam out with while i give guitar lessons. winamp and xmms are just too cumbersome, and this should free up the comp for other stuff...like finding sheet music and stuff.

anyhow, i have been having a hard time burning a good mp3 disk for this thing. i am using the strat mp3 player, loading all mp3's into a /mp3 directory as prescribed...but nothing. i did manage to burn one earlier, but that one was burned wrong, with the files i needed also in a directory instead of root. has anyone else had this experience? right now i am downloading the strat76 version 1.13 player...so i will check on that, too

what happens when you try to load the mp3 disc? Are you burning it in the correct format? (iso9whatever, i'm not sure if it supports Juliet) You have to follow the instructions exactly

ya, i am following the instructions exactly. this newer one seems to have different instructions....but on the older one i kept getting buffer underruns on the burns. then i go to do just a regular burn of something else, like an audio cd, and it is just fine and dandy.

but i just tried a burn of the newer player and got the same deal. calibration area full, invalid write state. that is with nero.

thats really wierd try using DiscJuggler, most games/software for the DC is made to be burned using that program. ohh and burn with a cdrw first to make sure it works so you dont keep wasting cdrs. If it burns with no problems reburn it with a cdr

mystery is over! remember those cdr's that we all got from mei for $6/100 (kingston silver/blue)? well, i coastered like 3 of those. then i tried with a better quality cd and it worked fine. funny thing is that i burned other disks with the kingstons just fine...just not the player. oh, but i did burn the player fine once...just did it wrong.

right now i am listening to some mp3's by garbage. the new mp3 player has jpg capabilities! it's very cool! i am looking at a pic of the princess and me in hawai'i while listening to some garbage. very nice.

thanks for your help hapoo! now...um...if i am very nice....will you tell me how to view movies with this thing? i can't find that info anywhere

    lol

    sure
burning movies is just like the mp3's you just have to drop the movies in the correct dircectory:

    • Download the GypPlay - Full Release archive and extract it to a temporary directory.
    • Copy the VCD MPEG-1 movies to the temporary directory (see the extensions below).
    • Burn the contents of the temporary directory to a CD-R - ISO Level 2, Mode 1 (CDROM only,
      not XA), Joliet filesystem.
    • Bootup the UTOPIA Boot-CD, swap for the CD-R and play the movie!
