Thread: epson 640 suddenly crapped out

    on my Win98 P3 550,
I haven't changed anything. here is a list of all the stuff i have checked, and they are all working properly:
    -Printer Power
-Computer's paralell port, through control panel->system
-Printer cable is in firmly, no broken pins, looks fine
-Printer is on, has paper, has some ink, at least.

    Problem:
The "no ink" light is on, but there is some ink left in it, i know for fact. I'm going to replace the cartridge as soon as i find the original epson or a really high quality replacement, at a good price.
The computer simply reports the printer as "Not Found", "Communication failed" and other errors like that.
That's why i haven't changed the ink yet. trying to get in touch with Epson support, but i'm trying this simultaneously.

    Any tips? Thanks

try disabling parallel communication. The only thing is I don't remember exactly how to do this. I had a similar problem with my HP672- it would print occasionally, but sometimes it would prompt me with a printer communication error.

Try disabling this in the BIOS or whatever software your Epson came from...
