the new dell....sucks (edit: maybe it doesn't after all)

just got the new vostro 220 yesterday and i need some help. thing crashes all of the time. constantly giving me the blue memory screen dump. did so already when i was in the middle of posting this. also, or it won't shut down when i try to restart it or shut it down when we leave. just sits on the "shutting down" window for hours. literally.

just crashed again. crap. should i re-install windows? i've only added itunes, picasa, and FF.

Run their diagnostics and see what you get.

Also found this, which may or may not help:

Dell highly recommends applying this update as soon as possible. The update contains changes to improve the reliability and availability of your Dell system.

Kind of annoying when your computer gets stuck in a meeting or something......

(They should have used "Stability" rather than "Availability" haha).

thanks. i'll install that and see if it's better. i've unplugged a wireless device and that might have made a difference. well...the pc hasn't crashed in the last few minutes. i'll shut it down and see if it works.

Call Dell... you paid for the warranty.

It is very likely that you might have gotten a "bad" one... however I wouldn't write Dells completely off yet.

could be a bad cpu cooler fan or bad paste between the cpu and heat sink. this if the case is a dell warrienty problem.
    also a hardware conflict.

dude. you're just having horrible luck with your computers.

what wireless device were u using?
did you add any other hardware to what you got from them?

And yeah, i agree, call dell. tell them what's happening. if you got onsite warranty, they'll be there within 24 hours and fix it for you. if not, you'll have to send it back, but they're good with it.

    i was using a Linksys WUSB11 802.11b wireless adaptor. since i've unplugged that, i haven't had a single problem.

the driver cd is from 2006. maybe i'll find and install a new one and see if that fixes the problem.
