    Registration Stickers

So, i just got my CA registration sticker, and i was talking with my friend about how tedious it was to peel and scrape off the previous year sticker. he told me he doesn't do the peel and stick, but rather the stick over from the previous year.

    hahha...

it made me wonder, who here does the peel and stick vs. the stick over.

For me, I peel and stick because i think the new sticker's glue is only as good as the previous years glue, and i'm afraid it might fall off. Also, it looks quite tacky...don't you? And i would think it would be easier to steal the stickers if they were stuck on previous years stickers. I've had friends who's stickers have been stolen...shrug...

what do you do with your new registration stickers?

A lot of people (including my family at one time, I believe) would just stick it above the old one. Eventually, it'd create a huge blind spot if you'd owned the car for more than say, 8 years

I usually just stick it over the previous years because I score the tag with a razor blade. This prevents sticker theft. When the layers get to thick, then i try to peel off old ones.

I've always just stuck them over the old ones.

I wipe (maybe first with a damp wipe) down the previous sticker so that I'm starting with a cleaner surface, then slap the new one on.

I think it looks messy, so I try to peel off the old ones. But then I've also screwed it up by getting the glue smeared and dirty across the top.

I scrape, clean, apply new, slice like a pie. I don't worry that someone will steal the sticker, I can always get a new one. And if the person who stole the sticker gets stopped. Well, they lose the car for a min. 30 days. What I worry about is the inconvenience of having to get the new sticker. Ca. DMVs can be a nightmare.

I don't think this'll stop anything though - the better you idiot-proof a system, the more impressive the idiot becomes.

Ditto, only I use my key to score it.

Yup. wipe and stick... That glue gets on good after a year. It's a challenge to peel down a single year. You stack up say 15 on an old GTO, then you got something you can chunk off. But my new car is only 4 years in and i can't really budge it much. That's interesting on the scoring the sticker. Clever!

I let acetone sit on the sticker then use it when peeling off the old, seems to come off a lot easier
