anyone live solely off of zipcars (or similar)

I live in baltimore city, and there's talk of our city getting a car sharing program not run by zipcars. That's led me to think about getting rid of my cars, and just going off of that. does anyone do that? and where do u live, and how does it work out for you?

Well, i am a student at GTown, living in Arlington, VA and have my car with me. Given the efficiency of the DC public transportation system, i only take my car out to get groceries, occasional errands and meals out, and sometimes into DC itself for school functions.

I do have friends who also live in Arlington and in DC who rely solely on Zipcar. Once a month or so, they will get a zipcar with a few other ppl and just run all their errands in a day. It saves them a lot of money, the hassle of finding/paying for parking, and have the convenience of splitting the expenses.

I guess it all depends on whether or not you have family, need to commute to work, how many groceries/errands you need to run, etc...

how often do you think you would need to rent a zipcar?

well, I walk to work. right now, I drive a bunch to see my fiancee, and sometimes for groceries (once every 2 weeks?). Otherwise, I'll have church and church meetings to go to a few times a week. And then, I'll take trips up to jersey every few months to visit my folks.... which I would guess could be handled by a rental car....

otherwise, insurance costs me about 120 a month + gas, maitenance, etc.

We don't have anything like that here as far as I know. The city is too sprawling. What do they cost to rent?

i know zip cars is a 25 buck application fee up front, and a 50 buck yearly fee. otherwise, then it's like 9 bucks an hour or 66 bucks a day. but you don't pay for any tolls, parking, or gas.

You could pick up Lindsay Lohan for less than a intel 990x, and still have money left over to bail her outta jail
