has anyone tried this workout routine? i've heard good things about it but don't want to jump on another fad if it doesn't work.

The biggest thing is actually doing it. If you get that far, it can probably work for you. I own P90x, but don't do many of the workouts. I mainly do the ab disc and plyometrics disc. I mostly don't do the others because I don't have a set of dumbbells. I'm pretty sure the system should work for those who do it consistently.
My cousins did it. Both look so much better afterwards but I have to agree. Finishing is the hard part.

yeah, i just got it 3 weeks ago and been trying to follow the schedule. But it's tough to follow in my case because i travel for work. Otherwise, it's been kinda cool. I'm able to do more of the workout each time. So that's encouraging. No signs of physical changes yet ...
i bought it and it's on the truck for delivery today. bought a set of bands but don't know if i should get weights instead. hmmmm....

Give us updates on how it works. Does everyone have a place for a pull up bar? I don't know that I would have any place for it.
You could get that contraption that works in doorways.Originally Posted by Cubsfan

ha, that's the exact same one i got ... cuz it's the cheapest on amazon
actually cheapie, the pullup bar they sell for P90X is a much better pullup bar than what you got from iron gym.
as far as weights vs. bands, I mostly used weights. specifically, powerblocks. The program requires a lot of fast changes to your weights and unless you have a full rack of dumbbells, your best bet is power blocks.
I got 60 days into the program and had to quit because my dad was in the hospital and 6 days a week + special dieting was too much with 7 day a week hospital visits and a full time job.
It's a great workout. Pliometrics should kick your butt. I think the results are played up a bit, but I did get noticeably stronger in specifically my arms. It's shortfall is there's no real chest workout. (Pushups just don't cut it, IMO.)
Watch out for damage to your door frame with that pullup bar! You may want to pad the contact points with towels.
the diet program was a little monotonous. It caused me to no longer experience highs/lows from normal eating patterns, but I was much more mellow and my base level of energy raised some.
Say goodbye to junk food or the program fails!
finally, tony gets REALLY obnoxious at points. play the DVD with instructions only once you get used to the routine and put your own music on.
p.s. Yoga sucks.

why is their bar much better? because it offers more workout options or because it's better for your doorway and easier to use?
and powerblocks and bowflex selectech dumbbells are EXPENSIVE!

I didn't care for the bowflex. Cheap and clunky feel to them. The power blocks are well balanced, I think they have a better warranty, and it's easier to switch weights IMO. Yes, they're expensive, but much cheaper than buying the weights on their own.Originally Posted by cheapie
The bar has more options, and the options are more relevant to the workouts as the pullups require different grips. The iron gym will work, I just prefer what P90X sold me.

man. so, i've been doing p90x for 3 weeks now, and it's been hard to keep up every single day along with job and wedding planning. but it's been good i think. i have NOT followed any diet plan, but am making conscious efforts to cut back carbs, and do my best to stick with non-fattening foods.
how's everyone else been doing?
day 6 here. haven't done kenpo today but i'm riding 27 miles tonight so i think i'm all right. haven't lost any weight but i'm....sore. really really sore.
hey....where's your before pic?![]()

I'm just trying to look good for my wedding/honeymoon pics. mostly to shrink my gut (pretty sure i won't be completely losing it in 90 days, especially not following the diet plan).
This is also the first time I'm really pushing myself with weights since I had shoulder surgery 2 years ago. So, it's definitely strengthening my shoulder/back/arms that I haven't worked out in a long time. My left shoulder had atrophied so much from that time so these pullups are near impossible for me. If i can at least get back to doing a few pullups, I'll be happy.
so, how did everyone do?
by the last 3 weeks before my wedding, I all but stopped working out and eating right. But I had still lost ~10 pounds in the end, felt noticibly stronger, and had many complements from others of how much better shape I was in.
Of course, since I've gotten married, I've let myself go, and have gained back ~5 pounds that I lost. =)
meh, i have friends who did P90x, got some noticeable tone in their arms and upper bodies and they definitely lost weight.
but 1 month after finishing the program they put back on all the weight and lost some of the muscle.
staying fit is a continuous process that involves regular exercise and a proper diet. I think a lot of people expect to see longevity from programs like p90x when in reality they have to keep staying disciplined with a regular routine.
Yeah, any program that has a finite period of time associated with may have some short term effects but will not provide any lasting change. Those changes will only come about through a permanent change in eating and exercise habits.Originally Posted by ray
