I think it's about time we have a thread dedicated to good beer. A massive market called Friar Tucks opened up nearby and I've been trying individual bottles of beer and loving it.

Tucher Dunkle Hefe Weizen

It's absolutely fantastic for sipping while surfing/watching TV. Not much of an afterbite, but it has a lot of flavor for a hefeweizen. It's also a bit darker than most hefeweizens I've had.

I picture this tasting very good with a good bbq bratwurst.

In college I couldn't understand why some people were such snobs about "good/bad beer." I thought, why can't people just enjoy a bud or coors light like me? At one point I started being a little more adventurous and tried out different beers from different breweries, areas and countries and eventually it became a habit to always try new beers when available. After enjoying a wide array of beers for many years I had a chance to go back and try some of the old corner mart staples that constituted much of my college memories and realized, "wow, the stuff I used to drink really tastes bland." Now I still don't consider myself a snob. I can still enjoy a cold, refreshing "generic" beer if that's my only choice. But I definitely have a much greater appreciation for how many amazing beers there are out there. You just have to go and find them.

It has the perfect balance between sweet/nutty/bite that a good beer has. If you think you have another brand that's better, let me know, and I'll go for a taste.

There is no such thing as bad beer. My local liquor store has a brand that's $2.17 per six-pack. Get it cold enough and it's a fine beverage. Certainly I can tell the difference between that and a nice high-brow ale, but I wouldn't ask for lemonade instead.

I mostly drink my own brews. Lately I've been experimenting with Irish ales. But I'm also gaining an appreciation for midwestern lagers like Grain Belt Premium and Schmidt's (pre-1960 recipe.)

Maybe you are developing a wheat allergy. My Dad can't consume anything with wheat in it and my brother has started getting it too.

I tend to like hefes and ales usually. Bud tasted pretty skanky to me the last time I had it (drank a lot of Coors in college in Colorado).

I thought the same thing. Though I've heard of it as a gluten allergy, and it's generally prevalent in more than just beer. All the same, brewers all over the place are brewing gluten free beer. I never had any, but it's worth a shot for those having trouble.

whiskeypapa, I disagree. I consider PBR and Stag to be among the worst beer, and I will not drink it under any circumstances. I get a nasty headache from that crap. As far as "get it cold enough" that's what the japanese did to hide imperfections in Sake during WWII. As much as I love ice cold beer, I steer away from ones that don't hold their weight at 60 degrees F.

Nija, I have a newfound love for Coors. As cheap as it is, I find it to be the best of the cheap worlds and I'm loving it more as an average man's beer.

It tastes to me like a weird half-breed between a lager and a wheat beer. Light, but with a bit of wheat-weight behind it, I'm thinking Tucher might be a brand worth following after my love of the last Hefe I tried from them. There's a good aftertaste about 2-3 seconds after swallowing. That's what she said. Booyah.

My uncle has even more food alergies. He can't eat just about everything I do- breads, pasta, tomatoes, peanut butter, chocolate. My dad has found glutten free beer- Miller makes one but I can't remember what the name of it is. You could probably look it up. If my Dad eats about anything with any wheat in it (and you will be amazed how many things that covers once you have to deal with it) it goes through him like a greased pig. Sounds like if you do it is currently much milder than his is. It could be something else you have too.

I think the only beer i actually liked was Lambic. It's fruity and tastes like soda, probably why i like it.

Oh well. I won't ever get pulled over for a DUI of Sprites.

They didn't have the Dunkel where I stopped, but I picked up a regular Tucher Hefeweizen on Saturday. It was very enjoyable.

I can't stand mass produced beer (bud, coors, mgd). The only thing that should be in beer is hops, yeast, and water. there should NEVER be any corn in beer.

I really dig IPA's. I love the bitter taste! I like my beer thick, almost the point of being able to taking a bite out of the beer

but my standard choice would be a hef. A golden wheat beer is hands down my fav summer drink.

I love most any microbrew. I dig the mendicino county microbrews the best.

I have a tough time with IPAs and English Ales, but if you like hoppy, try Bitch Creek by Grand Teton, or LongHammer. Both sound like they're right up your alley.

I like this one A LOT. Much better than the Dundee Pale Boch I had a few weeks ago, and I liked that one quite a bit.

It's got a malty taste but the hops isn't totally hidden either. I want to say this reminds me of a "snakebite" if anyone's had one of those mixes.
Edit: I think I understand the correlation now. This is a sweeter beer...
I didn't get enough carb release when I poured the first one, but it seems to have gone flat rather quickly. Still, VERY enjoyable for an American Microbrew. A bit expensive at $10 per six, but it's worth the extra dough.
This would be a beer worth bragging about if you had it in a keggerator.

yeah, not a huge fan either. still a good beer, but not worth it. Same with the red.. if i'm gonna spend that much on chimay's, i'm definitely spending the extra buck for the blue.

Yes, sorry forgot to specify. Their bitters are great. Black Sheep was my favorite when I was there.
