    Windows 7

What do I need to know? Should I wait until SP 1? I'm still running XP, is upgrading going to be a problem?

I've been using it since February with minimal problems.

my thought is if your os is working just fine for you now.
first thought is if it going to cost me to up grade to windows 7. hell no stay were you are now.

second thought is if i can get a free working full version of windows 7. and your present OS is giving you problems . then go ahead and jump to windows7 when avail.

third thought all working fine right now. i know i want and like trying new systems .but i understand they will release a sp 1 version in the near future after the offical release date. i wait and get it .this way the general public can be the test dummys . and if there are problems with the new OS . i know my machine will not be one affected by any of the problems that may show up.
sure there have been free time dated release versions of windows 7 os out there . but till the final release date has arrived . you never know 100 % whats out there by microsoft or apple is really the final version for retail sales !

    What Reno said.. kinda.

If you're on XP, stick with it unless you can get a free upgrade. You can't do an in-place upgrade from XP to Win7 - you'll have to format & reload, according to this chart.

However, you can ignore the comment on that page about it being a tedious, painful process - I dunno what Windows 7 he was installing, but when I did it, I popped in the DVD, walked away and about 20 minutes later came back & everything was up and running.
