Authorities said a 22-year-old Grand Blanc man faces charges after pumping up the volume of his car stereo. Police said on June 10 the man pulled into a party store in the city about 50 miles northwest of Detroit, where an officer was conducting a liquor inspection. The officer said the loud music was still playing when the man exited his car, which had its windows rolled down.

The Flint Journal reported the officer told the man to turn down his stereo, to which he replied: "What?"

After the officer repeated his request, the man told him that his speakers weren't loud and that it was no big deal, then reduced the volume.

The officer said the man turned up the volume even louder after leaving the store. He was arrested and cited for violating the township's noise ordinance.

personally i wish this would happen more often. i don't understand. why some want / need the base so load it rattles our car bolts loose 3 car lengths away .

This is one of my pet peeves as well. Don't get me wrong, I sometimes like my music loud, but when I'm in those moods I'll either go to a bar/club, or be at home. Even at home though, if you are right outside my window you might hear a bit of the music (or bass), but not much further. In other words, I'm not bothering anyone else when enjoying my music.

I still think that car audio systems should not be allowed to go above a certain volume, since the main thing the driver of a vehicle should be focused on is well... driving. I'm sorry, but when you're pumping 115dB or more through your car's speakers, there is no way you are as attentive as you should be. Too many people don't seem to understand this.

Of course, the fact so many of these car audio enthusiasts think that bass rattling the doors sounds good makes me shake my head in disbelief, but I guess one person's noise is another person's music.

Naturally, same goes for all the twits on public transit who have their stupid iPod noisemakers (the bundled earbuds) on full blast so that anyone on the bus or train car can hear them.

Why listen to music if all you can hear is the car rattling? I'll never understand it either, but I hear it every night at my place.

Been on both sides of this... therefore I understand both sides POVs on the issue.

Pretty much, it just comes down to courtesy... especially at night. After 10 p.m. turn it down...definitely. Also, I would always turn mine down when I saw the cops around as well... just to not give them any more excuse to come over and hassle me.

Hahaha I forgot about that one since its been declinign a bit in my neighborhood. I never understood honking for people to come out when its 4am. Ringing a bell ='s waking up everyone in the apartment. Honking your horn ='s waking up everyone in the front bedroom of at least 60 apartments.
