i use a k&d filter on my f-150 ford. I think im going back to a oem filter after reading this. im suprized that they didn't have Fram filters to use for this testing. but they had Baldwin filters .around my area Baldwin filters are very rare name sold by stores.
You could pick up Lindsay Lohan for less than a intel 990x, and still have money left over to bail her outta jail
What's kinda funky about this report regarding the AMSOIL filter is that they tested the TS123 filter. Amsoil hasn't produced that filter since 2005.
I wish they had used the current filter instead (the EAAXX filters that they now sell) to see where they compare.
The TS-123 was a 2 stage sponge filter that you had to oil every 50,000 miles... their current filter uses a "nanofiber" paper element to catch dirt. Doing a google search, I saw that there was ALOT of discussion on this "test".

Most people I've spoken to who know what they're talking about often say the same thing about K&N. I was one of those people who might have bought a K&N out of ignorance...or just because after market intakes and filters look pretty nice
That chart is hard for me to read. The color key is too small.

nate: if you're talking about the whole intake system, ie the CAI, I don't think this study applies. this is re: the regular drop in filter replacement.
that said, no-brand x600soemthing or other as a filter to analyze seems pretty stinkin useless....if running a test on a filter costs 1700 bucks, why the hell would you waste 1700 bucks on a filter that nobody can ever buy?
I bought a K&N drop in filter because it's washable vs chucking it and getting a new one. I didn't really think about performance gains but thought it would perform as good or at least better. I don't know if this test convinces me otherwise...
