You could pick up Lindsay Lohan for less than a intel 990x, and still have money left over to bail her outta jail
Maybe from my computer this year...
Something MIGHTY SPECIAL must be available to entice me to run out of the house early that morning.
We'll see...

is a sale worth being trampled over by people who did not bathe the night before....
I want to enjoy my turkey slumber, and wake up late the next day.
Haha not a chance. I have yet to see anything amazing enough to get me to pry my rear out of bed that early in the morning on the busiest shopping day of the year.
I used to like to shop on that Friday, BEFORE it was known as Black Friday & people were clinically insane. Now... nuh uh.
LOL...I'm with you on this.Originally Posted by kimchicowboy

If someone offers up a 120GB OCZ Vertex 2 SSD for under $150, I'll probably go.

Before we were married, we would stay in line for gadgets and DVDs. Now we go to the outlets and I watch the women stand in longer lines then I ever seen for the Coach store.
Nope. People go way too crazy over the "deals" which seem to be less and less of a deal. Also there are usually only 5 per store.
A couple years ago I happened to drive past Bestbuy at around 11PM, and there was a crowd already lined up of a good 100 people.

So who went out? What time did you get there? How much did you save? How much were the hospital bills for being trampled?

around 1pm
We found a Zalman computer case for like, 8 bucks after rebate. No lines at Fry's.

i did go out got a 1tb hd,a wired ms keyboard ,laptop ms wireless mouse, a set of 3 panasonic cordless house phones (the old corded one we been using died just 2 days ago ) all at officemax saved like $200.00 on the total package. then before that went to meijers and bought a hdml cable of $10 about a 1/3 normal high price for them . but will need it when my new tv arrives this coming week from sears . also bought a small shop vac ,2 leather belts buy one get the second for $1, a portable jump starter for the car .my old one i have had for years died this summer. saved like $5-$8 on the one i got today. best deal i got this season was my new tv thats coming next week. but i got it on line and it seem online deals were better then the store deals . around me you could not get me to go to kohl's or walmart .there parking lots were total jammed.
no wait at meijers for me but there electronic dept was packed with shoppers looking for game systems for $199.00 at 5 am some were there for hours per a worker i know .

I went out and got a 16 gallon - 6HP Shop vac for $27 this morning from a local hardware chain (and yeah, that place was PACKED!!!)
I also did some online shopping on Thursday at Lowes.com. They pulled my items and I picked them up at my leisure. Their store was like a ghost town at 7 a.m. I couldn't believe that there was virtually nobody there. The cashiers were actually waiting to help someone. Wow....

I've never gone out on a Black Friday. I don't enjoy getting up early and I don't like the huge crowds. I also feel that my time is worth more to me than waiting many hours to possibly pick up an item on sale.
At least there's some deals online. I picked up two 2TB external drives from Staples for $69.99 each. Total comes to $149.98 shipped free to a local store. I was able to go to Radio Shack and get a 500GB external drive for $40. It just uses USB cables, so it's nice for backups anywhere I need them.
I was thinking about building a new system, so this is good timing for me. I'm buying an AMD Phenom II X6 Six-Core Processor 1090T, and may be buying a SSD drive for the boot drive. I'll probably get a motherboard with video on board, so I can do some research on what video card to get. So far most of my video cards have been ATI, but I'm willing to try nVidia. I haven't decided if I'm going to have a BluRay writer or just a player.
Well... I guess that means that you must have a REALLY nice paying jobOriginally Posted by Hoser
I look at it this way... I spent a total of 1 1/2 hours out on Black Friday (I left out at 6 a.m. and was back home by 7:30 a.m.). The stuff I bought saved me about $150 over what it would have cost me at regular retail price. I don't make anywhere near $100 per hour, therefore the time spent doing "Black Friday" did in fact save me money.
Unless you are a Doctor, Lawyer, Electrician or some other specialized craftsman... I just don't see how the time was worth more than the money (of course given that I didn't waste that time shopping for "trinkets" and other worthless stocking stuffers.) You just have to be smart about how to work the deals.
As always... your mileage may vary.![]()

we dont make that much maybe $40 per hour on a lucky job that went easy .most the time its like around $20 per hour before taxs !Electrician or some other specialized craftsman
in my area anyway

Lets put it this way...Originally Posted by renovation
I just had an electrician put in a new line at my house, I paid for all the materials myself and for a total of 2 hours of his time, he made $200. That's $100 per hour if you ask me.
Like I said, not everyone falls in that category. Heck, I had to pay a large appliance repairman $140 to fix my washing machine. The parts cost less than $20, and he was only at my house for about 20 minutes... therefore he (or his company I should say) made about $360 per hour on me ($120 for 20 minutes of labor).
BTW... in my earlier statement, I wasn't even figuring in the tax effect.. which would make my time worth EVEN LESS than the total savings I gained going out to the sales. You pretty much just reinforce my point figuring in tax effects
I'm just saying...![]()

You can say the electrician made $100 an hour for two hours for a a total of $200. But if he's not working (or billing someone) for the entire eight hours, his per hour average for the day is less.

Time wasted just sitting around the house doing nothing is still time wasted.Originally Posted by Hoser

Either way, people sometimes overestimate the value of their "time" per se...
BTW... as soon as the electrician was done with me, he told me that he had to rush off to help another "customer". Right now, I guess his business is booming (in recessionary times, people still need to get stuff fixed). I just wish I had more of those kinds of talents... (but alas, I do not, therefore I must pay someone to help me in those areas.)
