Anyone know anyone in New Zealand? Big quake there yesterday. They are comparing it to 9/11 - New York, but I don't think they are going to reach near those fatalities. I can see building devastation beyond that though.

Very sad.The epicenter was only 10km from the city so they got hit pretty hard.

New Zealand earthquake is sad,, the death count today was 400 people.. This is just a rough figure probably more people would have died,,
Having been through my fair share of earthquakes (Loma Prieta, Northridge), I feel really bad seeing the footage from New Zealand. As soon as Mrs. Kevster and I saw it on the NBC nightly news and they said how far away it was and that it was a shallow one, we both just cringed. They really got nailed

I've read 75 dead and 300 missing. So, yes, there will be more, but they haven't confirmed 400 dead yet.
