    Question

Hi, I'm rather new to win2k n networking in general n I'm trying to figure out how to setup an smtp server in win2k pro...I've installed the SMTP service along with WWW server n IIS snap-in....n I setup Outlook to look for the smtp server on 127.0.0.1 when i try sending something to another email I dont get any errors or anything but the email never gets there...I also tried mercury(www.pmail.com) same thing except in the server log it tells me that it cant find the domains where i send the email to....any help would be appreciated...thx in advance.

Don't get confused - an SMTP SERVICE is not an SMTP SERVER. The only SMTP server that Microsoft offers these days is Exchange, which is ungodly expensive for Internet mail (plus you need Server to run it).

You should look at 3rd party mail programs (Sendmail for NT is nice - http://www.sendmail.com).

The SMTP service allows an SMTP server to send mail thru the machine.
