SATA 3.0 HDD in an old machine?

I've got an old 2007 Macbook Pro laptop and I'm looking to upgrade the HDD. The motherboard has a regular SATA controller. Will a SATA 3.0 HDD work if I hook it up? Obviously I don't expect to see SATA 3.0 speeds. It's just that all the affordable HDDs with large sizes and fast RPMs nowadays are SATA 3.0 and as long as they're backwards compatible and work at regular SATA speed I'd like to use them. Thanks!

Yes it should work. Just take a good look at the interface on the old HD to make sure.
Am I alone here? Is that it?
Am I the only one who sees.

Maybe we can learn to be just like him.
    Wear a little uniform.
    Yes, sir.
    No, sir.
    Thank you, sir.
