I have decided that the adage about all car salesman being the scum of the earth is true. There is nothing lower than a car salesman. Nothing. Not even pond scum.
I spent the entire weekend looking for 2 cars, for me and my girlfriend, and finally we found 1 for her. It was a '96 Acrua Integra RS but fully loaded. It was "priced" at $14,238 (supposedly blue book) and slashed to $13,500.
The car was in good condition with only a few things that needed to be repaired, such as the passenger side door had the leather peeling off, some minor paint chips, there was some condensation in the headlights, the leather was pulled out from under one of the seat releases and head rests, and the back seat was pulled up a bit. Other than that it was in good condition. The salesman told us that he would easily drop another $1500 off ot the car and give us wholesale value on her car. That being on the table we had to leave but said we would be back the next day.
We came back the next day and went to find the salesman. He was out on a test drive with another customer, so another salesman offered to take us for the test drive and then hand us off. Not only did he never hand us back, but he wouldnt get anywhere near the price that the other salesman promised. He would only take the car down to $12,700 and give no more than $1500 for the trade in. (the car wholesale books out for $2250, and retails for $4225) Plus the reason we didnt grab the car the first night was because it was dark, we had to get somewhere, and I wanted to get the true book on the car. The was booked high at $14,500 (if perfect) and booked low at right around $10,000. Thus in the condition that it was in it should have gone for no more than what the first salesperson offered.
We told the salesman that we were both full time students in law school and for whatever reason he couldnt keep that fact in his head, tells us that is why we arent reaching a deal, trys to explain community property to someone who got a 3.8 in the damn class, and says it completely wrong. Then he reacts like an idiot when my girlfriend explained that she didnt work because she didnt need to work, she had a co-signer available and could make the payments without any problems. The guy became a complete jerk and we finally walked.
Every other car salesman we have dealt with has been similarly idiotic. I figure it has to do with the fact that if you have a college degree you are not allowed to sell cars. There might also be an IQ requirement of 100 or lower. I dont get why if you tell them that you wont fit in a car, they argue with you and make you prove them wrong. The same goes for me saying, I dont like the looks of that car, I would never buy it. That should let them know that I am not interested so dont waste your time trying.
I dont get the logic there. I just dont get it. I am so annoyed that I would honestly knee cap every single one that I dealt with over the past few months for either being dumb, having an attitude, or just judgmental.
That is just my experience.

anyway, the salesman was an ass, thats why she got the car. he told her she would get the financing with no problem, and i guess she got to take the car before she was actually accepted with the stipulation that if she didn't get the loan, then she had to bring the car back. so she got to drive a brand new car for two weeks for free
