Depot has the 52-bottle Vissani Wine Cooler for just $199 each. We've had two of
these at our house for almost 2 years and they've been working well. They're thermo-electric,
so they're very quiet. The drawback of this is the difference between the temperature
at the top of the cooler and the bottom is a bit wider than a forced-air unit. However,
on the flip side, you can just keep your white wines at the bottom and reds at the
top; just use the adjustable thermostat to pick a nice middle-ground temperature
(we set ours to 55 degrees F in the middle). While they advertise a 52-bottle capacity,
we've found the usable limit to be about 40 bottles if your bottles are not perfectly
shaped/sized. In general, wine coolers of this size tend to be $350+, so it's a
great deal. Order online and pick it up at your local store to save on the shipping
cost (otherwise it's $75). Remember, the rule of thumb for purchasing a wine fridge
is: estimate the max amount of bottles you can ever dream of having. Double it.
Then double it again. In other words, this is the size for you if you're guessing
you'll need to hold 10 bottles.
