    Any handypeople out there?

My gas dryer has stopped igniting. I put a load in the dryer before bed, only to find it was still tumbling the next morning. The basement reeked of gas.

I've gone through a ton of web searches, and everything points to the igniter, the fuse, and the thermostats. I went to a parts store where they pulled up my whirlpool and verified continuity in those parts.
I even blew through the tubing in the dryer to confirm gas could get through if it wanted.

Still, the dryer tumbles, yet no flame.

I replaced the igniter and the fuse with no avail. P.S. The gas smell is gone when the dryer is run.

My only remaining thoughts are that gas is somehow not reaching the burner, or the timer has something wrong.

    Anyone else have any ideas?

My first guess would have been the igniter. One thought: I think there is some sort of "thermocouple" that keeps the gas flow turned off until it senses that the igniter is hot.

I have no clue, but I appreciate the idea. Any thoughts on how to check? (This dryer is probably 10+ years old. It was a used gift.)

another whirlpool. I would guess your inner workings are going to be very similar.

Slightly related...do they sell gas detectors so you don't accidentally blow yourself to kingdom come? It's the Carbon Monoxide ones right?

CO detectors will alert you to dryer/furnace exhaust gasses entering living spaces. However, they will not alert you to "raw" natural gas. There probably are such devices, but your nose is very good for that due to the additives (mercaptan or a
similar sulfur-based compound) that give the rotten-egg smell to the otherwise scentless gas.

bad gas valve or just time to get a new replacment if its 10 years old or older i'd really thing about a replacement what it save you in $$$$ in the long run. one final thought is maybe a clog in the exhaust tube.(lint build up)
