The question is not wheather it is a bootleg copy, the question is why would you want to waste your money on a piece of crap that was hidden tiger crouching dragon

    Question An even better question...

...is, why are you crapping on this guy's legitimate thread with such an inane opinion that no one really cares to hear from your crotch mouth?

If you've nothing constructive to post, just _move on_. There _are_ other people BESIDES you that really enjoyed the movie. The flaming gay fairy flying scenes INCLUDED.

Here's a BUMP for you, Newguy. Do let us know the DVD's quality and its region assignment. I'm interested in buying if it'll play on my Region 1 Panasonic DVD.

    Thanx.

Most of the bootleg copies don't have any of the special features that this one has. I know they have an officially licensed released DVD in Malaysia that I've seen being sold on ebay.

Anyways although i think the movie was crappy i have the following to say, I am very positive that this DVD is a bootleg... because the site seems kind of off if you know what i mean, starting with the choppy english.

    Sorry for the offense

What about the movie did you not like? Everyone else I know absolutely loved this movie. It was like Titanic meets Matrix.

Just to clarify something. It might show lots of special features, but it still doesn't mean its real. My friend gets DVDs from Hong Kong all the time, and they all have special features listed on the back. None of them except the copies of officially released DVDs have special features. Further more, most of the copies of official releases have desynced audio. The ones that don't have special features or anything, and are out before or during the movie's theatrical run are usually recorded straight out of the theater with a hand cam. And since there is a high possibility that this is a HK bootleg(since it IS a HK movie), theres also a high chance that it was recorded with a handcam and doesn't have special features.

I can scan the back of one of my friends DVDs to show the 'special feature' listing that is nonexistant, if anyone wants me to.

This link should clear up everything. It is a very reputable site. http://www.ign.com . They are one of the biggest networks of sites in the gaming industry, and update every week day. http://dvd.ign.com/reviews/1086.html

I have not looked at the site yet, but you guys are all aware that this movie came out in Asia a while before it came to the states, right? So if that is the case, then why wouldn't it be possible that it might have been released in Asia before it was here on DVD? Maybe that is why the site has "choppy English" and might be an indication of the $8 something shipping charge (though I have never purchased anything from anywhere outside of the US before so I am not sure what kind of S&H rates they charge). I think it is a toss up personally, whether you are willing to take the chance of it being a true DVD or a copied one. Very true that there are a lot of fakes and copies all over Asia. I also know that the releases from Asia that I have seen (be it a copy of the actual footage from a hand cam of the theater screen, or a release) have the subtitles on the bottom of the actual picture, not in a black field under the picture like it was in the theaters here in the states. It gets pretty hard to read unless you speak fluent and very formal Mandarin Chinese.

    Talking

well, I had the image on my webspace at http://members.home.net/bravo1540/bob.jpg (the monkey is actually named bob and he live on my dash board in my car). Then I used UBB code. I am gonna have to put spaces in the code so that you can see it, but if you wanna use the code, just take out the spaces:

    [ img] http://members.home.net/bravo1540/bob.jpg [ /img]

now just take out all of the spaces of the above code, and it will show the picture of the link.

    It's legit

I just received my copy today after reading the review on ign.com last week. It played fine on my dvd player fine, I just had to press stop and then play again before it would work (this was mentioned on the website). The picture quality is outstanding, just like most newly released dvd's. Another feature I like is that there is an option for both english subtitles and english language. I listened to the english language version and it was done extremely well. Not at all like a bad Jackie Chan film. I was suspicious about the website at first too, but everything turned out ok.

    Thumbs up

I recently ordered this dvd form getvcds.com.

They FedExed it to me in two days for $8.99. No problems what-so-ever. I also ordered the Star Wars triology on VCD. It was the first VCD to have the THX stamp of approval. I have watched it at work (no dvd player). It is pretty darn good quality also.

Back to CTHD, the dvd is 100% legit. It does have all the features that are listed on the box. Once inside the menu, it has one feature that was taken out (interview with Ang Lee). The menu will just pass over it.

Besides that, it is pretty cool to have a dvd of a movie that is in the top 5 over here.

It was my first purchase overseas and I must say getvcds.com did a great job.

They bill your credit card under CCNow.com, I believe.

    Highly recommended. 2 thumbs up!!!

Don't know if this is still helpful but I know they are releasing the official DVD in asia already. They were on sale over Christmas in Blockbusters.. the movie went up during the summer. well, but it is also true that some of the countries are infamous for their fake copies.

I played my copy on my Sony DVP-S530D. I also had no problem with it on my PS2.

    Great Movie?!

Actually...back in Taipei everybody absolutely HATED the movie, and people were shocked that Ang Lee got so many nominations.

Also, I was able to play on my buddies Panasonic dvd player (old one too).

I got my monkey at a place called The Block in orange county SoCal. Where did you get yours? What is its name?

BTW... I would order the CTHD DVD except I know that the US release is gonna get super treatment, probably with new voiceovers and extra features galore.

Never mind, I just caved and ordered it. I loved that freaking movie and can't wait to see it again. I saw it opening nite when it was only in 31 theaters in US and Canada, and I bailed on a bunch of friends who refused to read subtitles (they saw What women want) and they got so mad that one barely said a nice word to me for almost a week, and she said I was mostly bad. Oh well, it was worth it.
