Yeah, so I thought they were generally sane. Good SHORT speeches, Steve Martin was much funnier than that hackneyed git Billy Crystal.

But did anyone notice that Bob Dylan bore a striking resemblance to Vincent Price? I have expected him to cackle sinisterly after winning the stupid prize...

    Unhappy

I am the biggest fan of movies you'll ever meet, but personally, I don't understand all the hype that goes on before the oscars. It's everywhere!!! On talk shows, newspapers, magazines have special "oscar issues," there are professional oscar analysts who spend all their time competing with other analysts to try to see who can predict more accurately who will receive what award. Hell, they even summarize the results ON THE NEWS!!! What's the big deal? It's not like it's some big surprise. Everybody knows the small number of nominees months before the actual cerimony. Even though I absolutely loved most of the movies that were nominated, I'm absolutely sick of hearing the names , "gladiator," "crouching Tiger," and "Steven Soderborough" now. Am I missing something? Your country's game at the olympics is something to look forward to and get psyched about. I don't know about anticipating for months about who are the most politically capable people of the year in Hollywood. I guess it just doesn't have that same spark for me as it does for everybody else...

sorry to sound flamy as soon as you started this thread pennypinch. I love movies and think great movies deserve big awards. I have spent years looking forward to watching certain movies after seeing the preview or hearing about a directors new project. I just don't understand the months of buildup towards an award ceremony that seems quite predictable.

yeah, Gladiator was the clear winner hands-down...

I've got the DVD a week ago.. and I've already seen the movie like 5 times... not including specific scene selection viewing...
