So, who ordered XP?

Im just curious. I ordered it today out of a mix of boredom and curiosity. I really want to know how well it will run in beta and see if what they are saying about its stability is true.

and i just figured it was only $10. what is the harm in that?

besides, you know, maybe someone like me would order it for the simple fact that knowing how it works BEFOREHAND might help with being able to troubleshoot new systems that are sold with XP on them instead of looking at the computer and scratching my head.

having even the beta would be a big help to diagnosing something after it is released.

No XP for me...

From what I've seen and read so far, XP is the best reason I can find to make the permanent jump to Linux.

I don't care for the new GUI, (I know you can turn it off). I don't like the almost-mandatory registration bit. I REALLY don't like the re-registration if you change enough hardware, something I do very frequently. And the yearly subscription fees for OfficeXP and/or Windows XP are the kicker, if they're true.

It'll probably be a nice, stable OS for home use once it's out. But there are too many hooks in it for me to use it comfortably.

i already tried one of the really early versions as well as a slightly newer one.

i just hope you'll be able to make the start menu a little less fruity looking.

i am using office xp right now and i like it a lot more then office 2000, i don't really have much use for an office suit though.

I might try it if MS paid me $10. The personal version won't even be upgradable so you'll have to wipe your system in 180 days!

What ever happened to the days when beta versions were free and you might even get a free tee shirt too.

From the reviews I've read, office xp seems like it has nothing useful. Besides when was the last time office 2000 crashed on you?

They actually added a lot of functionality, if you're the type that likes bells and whistles:

- Voice support - Excel will read back the values to you as you enter them in your spreadsheet, if you like
- Instant Messenger link in Outlook - you can IM your buddies right from Outlook if they're online
- Task reminders in Outlook all pop into one window rather then 47 different ones - only one click to dismiss those 4 meetings you're skipping out of!
- Improved copy & paste - the clipboard now holds up to 24 clips & can pop up as a side bar in your apps
- Improved Word revision tools - you can send a document to someone to revise, and there's a button right in Word for them to mail their revisions back to you. Revision marks are also much clearer.
- Support for Hotmail in Outlook
- If you have multiple mail accounts set up in Outlook, you can choose on the fly which account to send mail from

There's a few more good ones, but I forget what they are. Anyway, there's more toys to play with in this version.

so Im running it now. In a month and a half, I reset it once, when I upgraded betas! Its awesomelly (is that a word) stable. but the new UI looks like a kid designed it

Hey people, I just registered up here. I've been jacking with PCs for about 10 years and finally decided to register on this forum after checking gotapex news for about a year.


About WindowsXP, I feel that with the new protection they have, many people will not use it. The protection *does* stop some piracy, however, since its a Microsoft product, we all know it is likely to crash, so everytime I format my pc, I have to contact Microsoft? That's just terrible! How about when I upgrade my hardware? This is a terrible idea, and they better think about it.

Also, what if someone doesn't have a modem or access to the internet? How does their computer register with Microsoft?
