can I use multiple locations on Win2K?

My sister goes to UCLA and she has her laptop configured for the network up there. She is kicking it with me for a couple of days and she wants to hook up to my much faster network but she doesn't want to mess with her settings at all. IS there a way to setup dual locations on Win2K? I don't have any experience with it so I would appreciate any advice. Thanks!

you can make as many different connections as you want, just run the Network Connection Wizard.

Im looking into doing this too, cept I don't think the network connection wizard is the answer. Check out the options below that I'm given:


Don't see how you can configure another NIC card in there. I think that you need to set up another hardware profile and do it that way, but still haven't figured out how to do other than install another copy of the OS and dual boot.

I guess I could code a logon script that would reconfigure the reg keys, but thats getting a little hairy...

Any ideas?

EsDeeLoco wasn't using another network card, he wanted 2 connections using the same card which is possible. All you have to do is select the "Dial-up to the Internet" option. That will take to to another page that will let you select LAN as your connection method.

Thats a no go.
All that does is tell IE that you're now connecting to the 'net over the LAN. It does not allow you to make another NIC configuration *( I'm looking to have 2 different confiugrations on 1 NIC)*

I need to have 1 configuration @ work for DHCP and 1 configuration for home with static IP/DNS servers.

I beleive thats what esdees question was about.

If you only connect DHCP, then it's no big deal.

well, kinda.

Not a do-able thing in win2k. (the only way to do it is to do a logon script)

BUT.. It is doable in Win XP !

And it's pretty easy too!

XP is pretty sweet by the way... I like the colors...

What I really like is the text quality on my laptop, very very nice. Like reading a piece of paper.
