Hows this sound for my new system???

I've posted and read some stuff here and elsewhere. So here goes my current plan.

MOBO- Asus A7V
CPU- Duron 750
HD- 20.4 GB probally Samsung or other such brand
DVD/CD-ROM- Not sure some suggestions on a cheap but good one please. Did see a NEC 12xDVD 40XCD for $53 on pricewatch
CD writer- As with DVD/CD I'm not sure looking for help.
Video/Graphics Card- That is if there the same thing need something good but cheap.
Case/power- What kind do I need and what power supply. Would like upgradeablity.

I would suggest a 7200rpm hard drive
(i go with Western digital or IBM)

Cd-burner - anything wiht burnproof technology

video card - geforce 2mx is a good buy (im an ASUS fan)


Powersupply should be at least 300watts (i suggest at least 350)

as for the case, thats up to you

HD: I would not use Samsung.
Vdeocard: GeForce 2 MX. Maybe a lowcost Radeon.
Case/power: Antec's 300 watt is good. Take a look at enermax power supplies.

DVD: See if you can get a cheap Pioneer.

Good choice on the board.

For DVD, I would recommend getting a Pioneer 12x slot drive. I've seen them for as low as $75. It's a high quality drive at a very economic price.

I highly recommend IBM drives. They're very reliable and robust, and don't cost much more than you would think.

I just bought myself a Hercules Prophet 2 GeoforceMX card, and it rocks. Only cost me $99 at a local retailer. You can probably find it online for about $75.

I also just bought myself a Plextor 12x10x32 CDRW drive. It has burnproof technology and cost me $175. You can get the 16x10x40 for about $210. Either one is a good deal.

Personally, any Mid-tower ATX case is good for me. It's the power supply that really matters. 300 watts is good, but 350 is a whole lot better. To put it into perspective, I have a Wildcat 4000 graphics card on my workstation that uses 49 watts of power. The more power you have on hand, the more stable your system can be.

Ack. . . people he's not having much hardware. A 250 watt power supply should be more than ample. I have a 250 ps right now with four hard drives, mobo, pII 400, ati radeon, dvd drive, cd-r drive, zip drive, floppy drive, dc30 video catpure card, adaptec 29160 scsi card, nic, live!, h+ dvd decoder card and two usb devices. And no problems with power. Go ahead and save your self some cash and get a 250 ps. And for a cheap case check out the CasEdge 3000SF you can get it for around $50 shipped with a 250 watt ps.

If you're not convinced that 250 is enough, I just built my friend a similar system to what you want:

MSI K7T mobo, Duron 700, Matrox G450, Maxtor 20 gig, 128 ram, cd drive, cd-r drive, and a sound card. And it runs just fine.


Also about the other equipment. Depending on your video needs, if you're a heavy gamer go with something from nvidia but if gaming is not your cup of tea, check out the radeons from ati, they are very nice. For dvd drive, go with a hi-val/pioneer drive. For the burner look into plextor, yamaha or tdk. And for the hard drive I would go with an IBM or Maxtor, 7200 rpm of course. Oh and since you're planning on getting an AMD rig, don't skimp on the ram, get yourself an infineon chip, worth the extra $5-10.

There is not much of a price difference between 250 watt and 300 watt power supplies. So go ahead and get a 300 watt Cyric. Its better to have too much of a power supply than not enough.
