    Question

I'm a bit new to overclocking on the T-birds. (The last cpu I overclocked was a Pentium classic 75mhz to 100mhz) What I'm a bit confused about is the voltage setting. What is a general rule of thumb for voltage setting in relation to cpu speed?

I have a 700mhz T-bird on an MSI KT7 Turbo-R board, 256 mb pc100 sdram, 64mb Radeon, and a SB Live platinum. This is my fool around/mess around system, so I don't mind experimenting with it.

I currently have the cpu overclocked to 850mhz but without any voltage adjustment. I have a feeling that I might want to change the voltage setting. I'm sure I can overclock the cpu to 1ghz, but am afraid to since I don't know what voltage setting to use.

    Thanks for any comments/suggestions.

Hello Dan. The socket Athlon 700 uses by default 1.7 volts. So give the cpu more voltage. Start at 1.75v and see what the result is. Then try 1.8 volts. The most volts you would give the cpu is 1.85 volts. Use a good cooler like Global Win's WBK38 or an Alpha.

Thanks. Setting voltage is new to me, so any help that I get is very much appreciated.

You go into the bios to change the voltage after changing the jumper on the motherboard. You got 2 choices for the jumper: either 100 MHz-132 MHz or 133 MHz-166 MHz.

"If J17 jumper is ON, you can key in the number from 100 to 132. If the jumper is OFF, the settings range from 133 to 166MHz."
