Thread: Sharing a computer . . Questions

  1. #1
My friend (yes really) is now getting cable access installed at his house. Problem is there are 3 people there now and 3 PCs. Only one will have the good access to the internet and thusly his PC will be used mostly. He needs to hide certain files or folders from his other 2 roomies.

I looked at a few encrypters but you have to maually encrypt each file, and then decript it if you want to view it later. I can be a long wait on even smaller pics over 100K or so. Any ideas here?

Some good apps that would hide entire folders? Or at leaste be able to put password protection on them?

Thanks guys, you are always very helpful!

Win2k would work good for that, or just have everyon use their own pc's use win proxy and a small hub for an easy network
Am I alone here? Is that it?
Am I the only one who sees.

Maybe we can learn to be just like him.

I don't understand why he wouldn't just share the connection with his other friends via a hub/router. Makes more sense to me... everyone benefits.

I have to agree with Coleslaw on that one.

    1. To Coleslaw, it's hard for 3 college guys to afford cable in the first place. Let alone go buy anything to accompany it. They did get a CDR, and a RAM upgrade.

    2. They have no concept of computers in depth in any sort of way. This is no understatement, all they know is that you can get porn, free music, and occasionly get your teachers notes from class online. That's it.

    3. I think he's weary of his files being seen regardless of how many PCs have cable connected to them. I have been tempted myself to go snoop his files when he wasn't home. We refrained, but who says we can hold back next time = )I wouldn't breech his confidence, but man, his girl is a hottie, and knowing all those nude photots are there burns me up ; )

I think that may help explain it a little better.

Take care- I am in the process of taking Magic Folders up to his house tonight. I hope it will do the trick. Looks like exactly what he needs.

    Thanks for the tip, hapoo!!
