Thread: Dell celeron system for $379 + tax

  1. #1
    Free shipping.

    http://www.dell.com

    Choose all the cheapest options.

Or Pick Pentium III 933 for $479 or 1GHz for $519.

You may want to add a $30 modem or a $20 network card or if you feel brave $30 Soundblaste Live Value card but since it comes with integrated intel video chip I would not expect this to be a killer system by any means.

And a 128 or 256MB of memory is probably a good idea.

Refurb units are $50 off if ordered online..

If you care to get a dell refurb unit you will get $50 off until the 12th. These are great deals too. I have ordered several Dell refurbs (more than 10) and have not had any problems with them.

    Question

at what point does it become $379. i put in all the cheapest options and at checkout it still says $479 with the ($100 off) under it. has that $100 off not yet been applied? also, i takes me to the business lease page every time?!? how do i just purchase it? Dell keeps trying to give me a $10,000 small business loan.

I also got $479 and I had no monitor included in the package and the $100 off was included in their price update.

    Celeron 700
    Win98 or WinME
    Microsoft Works Suite 2001
90 day Parts + Onsite Labor + 90 day Phone support

    No Monitor.

My second guess would be you forgot the warrantee.

I get $539, what am I doing wrong? Can someone give, in detail, the choices? That, or any other cheap pc's that can be found out there!! Thanks guys!

    My screwup! Thanks!

    Wink Steps

    Go to dell.com

    Click on "Small Business"

    Click on Desktops

    Click on "Choose Dell Dimension"

    Click on "Choose L Series"

    Click on "Customize it"

Select Celeron 700MHz, Windows Me, MS Works, and 90 day warranty, click "Configure This System"

Select No Monitor and click "Update Price"

    $379 TA-DA

You can save additional $10 by choosing a Dell mouse. One note tho -- I don't think the system comes with on-board sound so add a sound card if you don't have one lying round($30 -- SB Live).

A NEW BONUS: Now you get 6 months of AOL free. You may want to add a modem ($30) for that.

I think FREE SHIPPING still applies.

    Same here. $479
I think the $100 has already been deducted.

    They also quote:
    " Dimension L
    From $469
    or $13 / 48 pmts. business lease.
    Monitor not included."

which would lead me to believe that's the very lowest price.

    What warrantee are you choosing?

  12. #12
APEX is right. i went back and tried it again and it is $369. i put in the 90 day warranty and works (though on the first screen it does not note that the price drops with the Works change). and the 6 months of AOL is a nice new addition. my only remaining question....do i add RAM and a modem factory installed (seems expensive) or do it myself?

    Good question about the ram.

How do you install more ram? Is it easy to do?

  14. #14
ram is EASY to install on these systems. Buy it elsewhere for less.

I also e-mail Apex about this, but there is also TAX. At least here, in NY. So, depending where you live, that also may be a consideration. Just my $.02.

If you're looking for integrated NIC and SOUND, look at the Optiplex.. you can strip it down to about $530 (give or take $10)... you also get to choose mini-tower, tower or that other whatchamacallit thing.

We just bought ten of these Dells for the office and they work great on the network. You can get PC133 168-PIN SDRAM anywhere. I just picked up 128mb from Best Buy for $40 after rebate and there are better deals out there. RAM is easy to upgrade and on these computers it is SUPER easy. There is a latch in the back that you push, lower the case, and slide in the new RAM.

Dumb blonde question time: How hard is it to install an operating system? I've never had to do that - always had the proprietary CD that comes with the computer. I'd like to get something like this for my mom, but I have some doubts about setting it up for her. Thanks!

  22. #22
Well if you're buying a dell machine like mentioned above it will come preloaded with the windows of your choice. At least I think that is what your asking. It is easy to load windows on a machine, especially win98. Haven't tried Me yet.

    Too slow!!

Looks like I was too slow to act on this deal. Instead of $100 off like yesterday it's $50 off and it seems that shipping is no longer free!! If I'm wrong please let me know that I'm doing something wrong!!

I think it ended yesterday. Give it a week or so, they will more than likely do it again.

Dell didn't honor the shipping free.

I got my Dell computer and I was happy with it. But I just got the invoice and the $95 shipping was not free! I tried to call them but they denied it. Anybody else have the same problem?

I got it with free shipping.

I also jammed filled every PCI slot, IDE interface, memory slot with stuff I had lying around. Filled to the brim is this Dell indeed.
